Hi Ella,

My diagnosis of depression is from my GP and then confirmed by the therapist attached to the surgery. It was this therapist who went on to diagnose GAD.

I guess strictly speaking you could say neither of these diagnoses are strictly official, as they have not been formally confirmed by a psychiatrist, but if the cap fits.....

Hi Ella,

Mine came from Mental health and a CPN and then 3 Psychiatrists and a couple of other theropists that work within mental health, if in doubt go to mental health and ask to see a shrink and ask them, but in the end I actually found out more online about my condition as i did a test that i answered yes and no to and that came up with the same as what they said but i was able to get a better understanding and research it

My GP, social worker and pyschologist

Hi

I'm not sure whether you are asking the question of anyone in particular, but I have never been given a formal diagnosis. I sought help because of how I felt but I already had insight and understood the kinds of issues I had and where they came from. Therapy confirmed and deepended my understanding and enabled me to tell my story. Now I struggle to grieve, let go and move on.

...from Dick Van Dyke? Not many jokes on here so im going with it even if its not funny!

At what point do we decide that we've been officially 'diagnosed'? I don't have certificate, but im sure i have alot of notes on my medical record of late. Its impossible to tell isnt it. If something has been 'normal' for so long you don't necessarily realise the extent of the problem, or the effect its had / is having. And perhaps if you're not able to communicate effectively, or forgotten how, you either don't get diagnosed or the damage is done by the time you do. Anyway im blithering on, in terms of professional help so far it goes like this - GP, GP*, GP, mental health worker, GP, mental health worker, GP, Counselling Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, GP ...tbcontinued... So depression and anxiety 'confirmed' second GP apt.
