Hi my friend is pregnant she keeps asking for my advice but I don’t no how to support her could someone give me some friendly advice I could pass on to her please

She is on 100mg of sertraline but she is pregnant she has been in touch with the doctor about it and they have said to try and drop it down to 50mg she tried and then for 4 days she felt awful and was crying calling me up I didn’t no what to do she suffers badly I want to help her she put it back up to 100mg but is this going to be an issue during pregnancy?

The doctors keep saying do what is best for u and you know the risks it’s up to u but she is scared and I don’t no how to support her any advice would be helpful thank you xxx

Generally it is important your friend reduces Her dose as recommended, eventually the GP will want to reduce the medication to zero, especially when expecting. The drug MAY effect the baby, the drug could effect the bloods of child and Mother.

Confirm above with Her GP

It is really important to NOT stop medication when pregnant. During pregnancy mental health can deteriorate quickly and it is important that your friend is well both mentally and physically during pregnancy. They are of equal importance for a safe pregnancy. . Hopefully she has booked with a midwife who could refer her to consultant care for management of meds. There is also a perinatal mental health team now in most places, sometimes a midwife specialist in post for advice. . GP s are not experts in pregnancy. Lots of women worry about the baby and meds but that needs to be discussed with an expert in management of mental health and pregnancy . best wishes corndolly

My best advice is to check with her Primary doctor to make sure no complications will occur during her pregnancy. A website drugs.com and then enter Sertraline for side effects and if it mentions anything about taking it being pregnant.
