Chronic pain

I suffer from chronic pain. I don’t know how to explain it or quantify it. I feel like I don’t want to share this information with anyone or take medication for it. I like to keep it private and to treat it naturally. I feel like if I share it with others, they will treat me differently and I don’t want to be ostracized or seen as weaker. I just want to be in peace. Is this ok? Does anyone else feel this way?

I suffer Chronic Pain and suffered for fifty years ago. I have been to Pain Clinic and I now manage my own medications and I fluctuate all doses.

There is nothing to feel bad about when it comes down to pain, if you suffer the GP can help you and learn how to manage your Pain

If you wish to PM I May be able to suggest something, depending on where your pain is etc.

Thank you. It’s in my neck. Pain medication scares me because I’m afraid of getting addicted. I’d rather take a more natural route. What have you done for yourself outside of taking medication? Also where is your pain located

My neck is the problem at the moment caused by extensive damage by PsA and severe damage in a car accident.

You could ask your Doctor regards a TENS Machine, possibly a twin channel one I use one of several machines over my body in general

If it is age related ask your Doctor regards taking Vit D3 daily and B12. That can build up tendons in joints etc. B12 becomes less with age and the body has to have this vit because it cannot be made by your body, it does seem to work for me

Hi Mamatired, we all find our on way of dealing with chronic pain, and over a great number of years I have found my level. I talk about it, I use strong medication for it now and again for relief. Some people just don''t want to do that, and that's fine. I also find that eating right, and doing regular excercise of some description helps me personally. Any excercise is good, as long as it involves regular and sustained movement of some kind, simple or advanced, whatever you can manage. Try and not care, what other people think of you. If they see you as weak, or shut you out, they are not worth knowing. A visit to a doctor you like is a wise move and he will be able to suggest a medication and ways for you to deal with this problem. The rest is down to you. Give it a try and see how it goesif you don't lkie what he says, try something else. Please don't give in. I have also found that there a hell of a lot of people going through much worse, than us. No-one should suffer Chronic pain it always needs to be looked into. Acute pain like toothache or headache, similar Backache can be treated with medications like Paracetamol, or NSIDS Chronic pain is a different type of pain and both overtime will need treatment. I take prescribed Opiates and they do help although they need to know severity and type before these drugs are given

Thank you for the advice and recommendations. I am asked to rate my pain and I’m not quite sure how to assess this. Are there any tools that you use that are useful? I find that it increases with stress and wax/wanes over time but is always there? It’s so strange trying to explain and I hate talking about it with strangers because I feel like they don’t understand it. This is also because I don’t know how to explain it. It’s just always there. One day I didn’t have it and then after an accident, it’s been present ever since. I’m young as well and it’s so frustrating and I feel like it’s my fault all of the time.

Hi Mamatierd, regarding the Chronic Pain issue, I have found after much experimentation, that some pain lessens or goes, with slow gentle movements of the pained area. I combine this with slow deep breathing. I do cross the pain barrier a little sometimes, but my body seems to know when to back off. Like everything else, I would speak to your Doctor and find out his thoughts on the matter, before trying this out. All I can say is that it sometimes works for me. All the best.

Pain is measured 1-10 where 1 is now pain and 10 is extreme. Various levels are listed 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Where 5 is your mid way point
