I have been to my doctors before and she gave me a number to call if I felt like harming myself or others but I really don’t need that.
What I was really after was maybe some medication or something to help ease the feelings that I have, I stress and worry about everything and I’m not really sure what I can do to help myself.
I’m just wondering how other people where diagnosed: did you get assessed? Did it come straight from your gp? And who in the process decides if you need extra help (therapy or medications)?
The counselor was a person I knew and trusted and her office has a psychiatrist on staff who I was willing to see. He handles the meds and she handles the therapy. I believe my disease I two fold- chemical and emotional. I was diagnosed with a Major Depression/Anxiety Disorder.
I needed help with anxiety/panic attacks. I went to my GP who was sympathetic and prescribed Mirtazapine daily and propranolol for when and as I needed it. She also recommend CBT therapy and pointed me to the NHS self referral site, which I did . There was a few weeks wait but it was quite easy to do. Hope this helps and you get the right treatment soon
Hi LizyR and thank you for your post. As Skye001 has posted, your GP will be able to help and support you. It is often helpful to make a list of questions you may wish to ask when you attend the appointment. Medication, CBT or counselling could be recommended.
