No-one has ever said that coming of prescription medication is easy, which is why it should only be done with the full support of your GP in a very planned way but Mirtazapine has a half life of 20 - 40 hours and therefore should be one of the easier types to withdraw from.

(The half-life of a drug is the time it takes for the amount of it in your body to be reduced by half. This depends on how the body processes and gets rid of the drug, and can vary from a few hours to a few days. No matter what dosage of a particular drug you're on or how long you've been taking it for, its half-life is always the same.)

A drug's half-life matters because usually:

a short half-life = more withdrawal problems

a long half-life = fewer withdrawal problems

So if today is the first day without taking Mirtazapine then there still should be plenty in your system (and it has a long half-life). I am wondering whether some of what your feeling is anxiety related because you know you are weaning yourself off of the drug rather than actual side effects of coming off of Mirtazapine itself.

You could be right I'm shaking all over legs are week and buzzing in head could be anxiety thanks for reply

You will find coming of AD Medications needs Patience, your GP would advise and suggest how to reduce the medication in a cautious way. We do not know how much medication you were on, generally I withdraw my medication in a reduction by half doses. It all depends how many tablets you take a day, so if you take four tablets, initially reduce down to three then four etc, allow a week or two before the next drug withdrawal. Etc.

Generally speaking you need to be positive in your outlook and try to put any side affects to the back of your mind. The way I do this now is my wife looks after my medications and She reduces my medications without explaining to me, My Citalopram was reduced that way from three tbs I am down now to one tbs. Side affects were minimal as I was not expecting the reduction. They are wanting total withdrawal, although I have discussed this with Wife and GP and will remain on this one tablet for the time being until they start again with my reassessment for my Short Term Memory Disorder, they may prefer another drug

Follow your GPs advise in my case my Wife is my carer so She has a list of things that need to be watched, My memory is not that good so they have given certain tasks to watch over me

Try not to concern yourself regarding withdrawal as long as you follow advice and not expect the negative you will be ok. My medications I take seem quite complex and I would be lost without the help given. You will be fine and ready to move on with confidence soon
