Can anxiety cause name confusion?

Recently I attended a university ball with my girlfriend of 3 years. I get really anxious about events such as this and I struggled a lot all day before the ball. Whilst at the ball I was still feeling anxious and then repeatedly called my girlfriend by the wrong name, this was made worse by the fact the name I kept using was of a close friend (female). Obviously this upset her but it’s very much upset me too. Does anyone know why this might happen and can anyone tell me something that might make either me or my girlfriend feel better about the situation?

I get names messed up all the time. Once you make a mistake you focus so hard on not doing it again you lose your train of thought. It's not just names. Sometime I feel like when my anxiety gets so bad I have to stop and think to put a proper sentence together.

I feel like I'm losing my mind sometimes.
