Free Bus Pass
Have you been registered disabled.
There are two different types, one for pensioners the other for the disabled.
You need now to be sixty five for the pensioner one and the card has a restriction on, time of travels limited.
The yellow card is for disabled and is open to all ages, no time restrictions. You need to prove you are disabled . Discuss this with your GP and Council. The card is generally unrestricted, not like the Pensioner card. I had the chance of either or. I took the disabled card.
Do you have a blue badge for your car ? If so you may be able to get the card ? Dependent on Council, GP
BOB
No sorry Bob i haven't got a blue badge as i wouldn't be able to drive as I've been diagnosed with epilepsy.
Talk to your GP Joey
You can get the form from Council Offices and your GP will confirm your condition
BOB
Thanks for your help BOB
Unless the rules are different in Wales Joey (I am in England) then you will only get a bus pass before the age of 60 if you are getting the highest rate of disablility. Are you? If not sure check on the Gov.uk site and this should should tell you the rules and criteria. x
Bob it's only in England (apart from London) that you have to wait until you get your state pension to qualify for a bus pass. In the home counties such as Wales they get one at 60 but it is only for that country and not all the UK. x
Bev
I have had my Bus Pass now for around twenty years. My last renewal I had the choice of the Disabled Pass, with a yellow dot, or the Pensioners Pass. I took the former.
My Pensioners pass would have been from sixty five years..
As you know we live in the North of the UK. Personally I do not know what the situation is in Wales, it needs to be checked out at Council Offices, and GP. I have real problems using buses so when you apply you need to know how you will be helped by Mobility.
Personally I do not know the situation is when people apply for Mental Health Concerns, only your GP knows and will help the application
BOB
Well it could be different in the home counties Bob. See my reply to you below. I have given the poster a link to find out. x
Ah not sure now Bob as there is conflicting advice online about this. I read that all the home counties got theirs free at 60 but one site is saying you have to be at state pension age in Wales. x
When disabled we get a pass with a yellow dot on up in the wilds.
If you are a Pensioner at sixty five, We get the OAP one. If you get Mobility you may have problems getting the pass if you drive. All becomes problematic as a pensioner you get it anyway.
Wales may be different, I have not used my pass down there
BOB
Your bus pass as a state pensioner is nationwide. x
Hi there,
Check the Wales gov.uk site as the rules are slightly different re-age etc, and it also entitles you to concessionary train travel too. See this link for more information: gov.wales/apply-bus-pass But, yes, for a person with disabilities you will have to meet eligibility criteria. So BOB is right, you need to speak to your GP about this. Get the information from your local council and give it a go!
Best wishes,
MAS Nurse and Moderator
The actual bus pass is age related, and is usually 65, there is another type of travel pass fir disabled people but not sure about it, your local, council will tell you, xxx
When I became a Pensioner I was entitled to a bus pass, although I had a Disabled pass before. On retirement at sixty five i was able to have a pensioner pass or Disabled pass.
I chose to keep the disabled pass going. Things may change in the next few years and I may need to revert to an OAP pass, we will wait and see
The disabled pass is not restricted by time, and use. The disabled pass is open all day. Disabled people need to go to work, pensioners are generally able to use public transport at later times etc avoiding the busy time periods.
Some areas give an allowance ?, they are able to use taxis I understand not tired that yet and it may not be allowed in your County
BOB
I qualified for one once in England
For one pass. I got told from advisors in this field that they no longer game them to people suffering from Mentle illnesses. They did for s period just to trial this. I may not get over the policy correctly however I am not in charge of policy etc. I hope this helps. I do not know if there are and differences in whales has I know in some cases policies differ on hhings.
