Am I depressed or is it circumstances?

Hello,

I’ve been crying pretty much every day and have been extra sensitive with my loved ones. I don’t know if it’s due to depression or my current situation. I am currently waiting on my grad school results, waiting on a temp job that will pay $12 an hour. My good friend moved away so I feel quite alone. With all this, am I crying much because I’m depressed or because if my current situation. Hoping for done insight and encouragement.

Hi, hope I can help. I would say it’s likely your circumstances and everything happening at once that is making you sad and anxious. If you have suffered depression in the past then I would see your GP, but at this stage I think you just have a lot going on and you are struggling to cope. Take small steps and remember what is important which your loved ones are. Stay on track with them because they will get you through this. Speak to them about how you are feeling and take time out to do what you enjoy, something that distracts your mind. Reading a book or having a fragrant bath while listening to your favourite music – remember the body lotion, something that smells uplifting will have an effect on your mood. Everything will work out, but how you cope now with the challenges you currently face, will continue to help you in future because life can be very challenging and learning to cope can be a struggle. Take care and wishing you well x

When we take examinations and are awaiting results you are bound to feel nervy because the results are a guide to your future. All you can do is wait there is nothing else you can do, the same applies regards employment.

The loss of a friend, moving away is a loss and hopefully you will meet again, also the need of friendship is important to you, so, now move on and meet others who will hopefully fill in that gap. So you need to spread yourself around and enjoy meeting others.

Personally yes you could see your GP and be given medications, to be honest I do not feel that will be a way forward in this case, everything is related to time and will eventually be sorted. Medications take about five weeks to work so some of your concerns are time related and will sort out. It is always problematic to take medications and come off them at a later date.

Hello togetherwestand. Look at the title you have chosen - Yes it is together we stand and we are behind you and here for you now.

Both CatSandy and Bob have said some very relevant words of encouragement for you. Talking with a health professional can be a good way of expressing how you are feeling and can offer help and not always in medications but practical help too. Getting back out and speaking with people, joining a group, doing hobbies that you like can all help. You have suffered a loss in loosing your close friend, take time to allow the loss to heal and keep talking with us as we are here to hear you.

Best wishes,

MAS Nurse and Moderator.
