Being HIGHLY irritable

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can relate or give some advice.

I’m going through the process of finding out what my mental illness is, mainly looking at bi polar.

Currently taking 20mg of citralopram, and I’ve found recently I’ve become extremely irritated, I’m very snappy and get agitated really easily.

I’m wondering if this is down to the illness or taking the medication?

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks

Hi MelodyLeigh and welcome to the forum. Like all medication, citalopram can cause side effects in some people. Many people have no side effects or only minor ones. Some of the common side effects of citalopram will gradually improve as your body gets used to it. Some people who take citalopram for panic attacks find their anxiety gets worse during the first few weeks of treatment. This usually wears off after a few weeks but it is important to speak to your doctor if you are concerned. If you are having problems with sleeping please take citalopram first thing in the morning. Do stay on the forum where other members will be able to offer help and support. Thank you and best wishes.
