Tired of being depressed

I'm so tired of feeling down and I don't understand why I feel like this, I've had a hard time over the past year, and I know it's partially the reason. I've started on anti-depressants but I'm so negative and feel that they won't work and I'll be depressed forever. Is there any advice anyone can give me? I want to get out but I don't have the energy to, ang coping mechanisms for at home would help?

Hi there, how long have you been taking your antidepressants? I know it usually takes about 6-8 weeks to really start feeling relief. Have you tried therapy too, it might help a bit.

I've been on them about a week so I've got a while yet! I've had various therapy and it's not worked for me. The anti-depressants were a last resort :(

Hi Tillz14, and welcome to the forum. I am sorry that you are feeling so down at the moment. You don't say how long you have been taking antidepressant medication. As Bobbyjo1 mentioned, it does take a few weeks before you begin to feel better and one of the talking therapies may help, such as counselling/cognitive behavioural therapy. It may help if you make an appointment with your GP to discuss this. Try to do something you enjoy for a short time each day and have a look at the Pinned Posts on the website which you may also find helpful. Please be reassured that you will begin to feel better and you are not alone. Do continue to post on this supportive forum where others will be along to help you. Take care and best wishes.

I've had depression, my brother has depression, over 1 in 4 people in the UK have a mental health problem each year.

Not to put down your problem, but!, you will find a solution. It can seem crippling to be stuck indoors all the time not wanting to do anything or look after yourself properly, but, you'll get out of it with the right help and treatment. If you don't feel the GP has addressed the problem ask for a referral to the local community mental health team and talk to a psychiatrist. They are ultimately the best qualified to help. I warn you though - they come in all shapes and flavours and it may take 3 or more of them for someone to actually be able to help you. Have patience and the help will come. Mental Health is a huge priority for society and the correct steps are slowly being made for it to become more accessible and useful.

I hope you feel better. Prozac helped me back in the day .... enough!
