Hi everyone my name is Cathy and I've just joined the group. I'm a bit confused as I thought I had Clinical Depression for most of my adult life. However, I was in hospital for some operations earlier this year and discovered that my Notes say I have Bipolar Disorder! I don't think I get the mania at all and when I discussed with my GP he says not everyone does. I had so many other things to discuss that I came away without knowing if it is a mistake or true. Again, no idea when I was diagnosed or if who made the diagnosis.

Hello & Welcome
That all does sound really confusing and your Doctor not helpful at all
Are you getting any treatment and is it working if you are because what ever label they want to put on your MH conditions if the treatment was working then that is a positive
Sometimes it is important to us to know exactly what we are suffering from and I would write those lists of questions out again that you want answered and I know it can be difficult for us to stand our ground but this is your health and you have every right to know what you are suffering from , when you were accessed and who and why came up with this diagnosis , so I would go back , list in hand and tell them firmly that you want these questions answering
If they try and skip some of the replies then point out , you did not answer what ever they missed out
Maybe another Doctor in the same surgery would be more forth coming in telling you what you need but I would certainly be going back and getting all my questions and replies
Hopefully other members will come along welcome you as well as give you some more advise and let us know how you get on
Take Care x
Hi there! I am kind of in the same boat...I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 15 and at the age of 34 (last year) It was determined that I am bipolar. I also do not have manic episodes but more episodes of rage. My depression is so strong that when I have a "manic" episode it comes out as severe depression. Do you have anything like this happen?
Could be that they had seen hypomania, a mild version, or the agitation of a mixed episode
