dont know which way to turn

hi i am new to this, dont really know what i am doing, but my depression and anxiety are taking over my life , i try to stay positive but its very hard to do

Hi Lawrence-99,

Sounds like you are having feelings of confusion, being lost, possibly overwhelmed and a loss of control over your life.

In my opinion, trying to stay positive won't help you as it would deny you the opportunity to face those feelings and acknowledge their existence. Once you have looked at your feelings straight in the face, you could start explore them and think about what might have caused them. So, I suggest, instead of avoiding these feelings, use them as a guide and tune in to try and understand what are these about, what message are they bringing to you. It won't be easy at first, but it will come more naturally with time. You may benefit from support in this endeavour, so, contacting a charity and referring yourself as a client in order to see a counsellor, for example, would be a good thing to do. It would definitely be easier and recommended to get on this road accompanied as opposed to alone. Imagine having a safe space where you could look at those feelings, explore their origin and observe them and having the support of a professional to guide you through the process, that could prove to be very beneficial to you.

Also, do not blame yourself for the way you feel; it won't help to bury your feelings as they will eventually come back stronger and the situation will likely become worse. But remember that there may be very good reasons for you to feel this way, so, don't think you are a bad/weak person for this or that something is wrong with you. Just allow yourself to feel and seek professional support at this difficult moment in your life.
