I have just been diagnosed with bipolar disorder which is Manic Depression. I don't know I'm going to deal with this and it has destroyed my relationship! I'm now alone and finding it hard too get up, be positive but also feel like I want to give up! Like enough is enough! What can I do!!!

Hi Richierich Welcome to this community! Don't despair there is help out there, and this is a supportive forum where I'm sure you will encounter others who have experience of this condition either as fellow sufferers or as carers. You've taken a brave step in reaching out, well done! Take a look on the right side of this screen at the 'Pinned Posts', then click on the link to Free guides on mental health. This will take you to the main Shaw mind Foundation page. Scroll down and you will find a free booklet to download about Bipolar Disorder as well as other mental health help. Depending on which country you live in, you can click on the respective flag to take you to a list of other crisis organisations in your country e.g. The Samaritans (UK) Tel: 116 123. If you live in the UK, the mental health charity MIND is really good, and has a lot of information regarding your issues. I've added the two links for you below:

You are not alone, and you will learn how to manage this, with the right kind of health professional support, medication and learning your triggers . It's hard initially to come to terms with something like this, but it doesn't have to define you. Try to draw encouragement from people like Stephen Fry, who has publicly raised awareness about it and is very honest about his condition. Mental health needs to be talked about especially among men, and not hidden, it is nothing to be ashamed about. It sounds from what you are saying that this is a fairly new diagnosis, so you are probably experiencing a sense of grief and loss of not only your health, but the effect it has had on your relationships, possibly work etc. Your GP, psychiatrist, community mental health teams, pharmacists are there for you as a protective network, to provide help and support, so do lean on them and stay in contact. Take care. Keep posting.
