Does anyone fully recover from Depression? Might sound a strange question but ive never known anyone to be 'cured' of it. Didn't know if it is possible? Let me know your story x

Yes many people may suffer depression for a short term, three months onwards. For example deaths Separation and illness etc

Others may suffer various times in their lives and may need treatment during this time, The periods can vary and can be caused by many things including a chemical imbalance in the brain.

The further number of sufferers are Chronic disability patients and various other conditions associated with various types of depression and Mental Disability.

I suffer a Reactive Depression caused by illness, I will need taking medications for the rest of my life

I have asthma too, and see my anxiety/depression as very much the same. It is never cured but it can be controlled to the extent where you are not aware of it for long periods at a time. Similarly it can also flare up again like any illness. Control is the key.

I believe as below that there is situational depression, such as after a loved one's death. That can certainly lessen in time.

There are many of us who deal with chronic depression. This is very difficult. It might require life long treatment.

A cure from depression is tricky. I think it's hard for me to imagine not feeling this way. I can't remember many times when I wasn't depressed. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear.

That is my experience. Best wishes, hugs to you, Nesie 237

Thank you Nesie237 and sdan4 i have the same view i just wondered if it could be possible. Probably being too optimistic lol i find things very difficult sometimes because i dont have a 'root cause' for my depression, it's completely hereditary from serious mental health issues in my family. Im currently on fluoxetine but does anyone think there is something better? 💛

When it comes to medications, we are all different, what suits one will be a real problem for another.

In my case with Chronic Disability it took two years or so to find the so called magic bullets ?. Initially try working with the medication you have now because changing medications can be very problematic. Ask yourself, if changing the drug to find a better one is the right way to go. The drug you are taking may be the best one and you could end up having real problems searching for that Holy Grail.

Think it often depends on what the underlying cause is.

I suffered 40+ years of depression and anxiety which went after I discovered that I had a problem absorbing vitamin B12 from my diet so had become deficient ... and started treating myself for that. Wasn't expecting the depression and anxiety to go but it did after about 3 months.

Yes, I still get days when I don't feel entirely happy but it's not the same thing.

I see my depression as something I just have to live with and learn how to live with - I have better days than others and go on a rollercoaster ride down up wwooaahh what happened there ! But it levels out for a while, I have anti depressants and have accepted that to stay kinda level I need a bit of a hand and if I have to take a couple of pills a day to stay level so he it, my animals help me so much I have managed to reduce my anti depressants - I think learning how to deal with your individual depression rather than 'a cure' I think I have a lack of serotonin its a medical condition I need the serotonin artificially its a imbalance

I think once you have had it you are much more prone to it. I have made the mistake of using alcohol in my depressions and it has caused a million times more problems than the depression and caused much more depression xxxx

Yes! I have faced depression and recovered from it. In 2011, my uncle was passed away. Those 15 or 20 days were very trouble-full for me. I can't expression in words that situation. After that I began to realize my mind under depth pressure. In every evening, stress had kept at high level. Sometime I realized that I was in depression. I went to doctor and he gave me some medicine and also some advises such as live happy and stress free. I also started wake-up in the early morning and did meditation, yoga, exercise etc. After some time I have recovered from that condition. And thanks to my God.
