I have not been on here for a while but know that you lot are always here for advice. I have been having a bad patch recently. Depression, hitting me in so many ways, I feel ugly, unloved(partner), Fibromalgia which I feel is closely linked with depression and not forgetting arthritis! I go to work everyday and feel that I can trick people into thinking I am happy. I'm not, I'm like a broken shell :(

If you are going to work each day and giving a good impression of being happy you are doing brilliantly. Broken shells can't do that, and nor can most people with depression so well done.

You'll eventually feel much better and will be in an infinitely better position than if you'd given in. It will be much easier for you to pick up a normal life and enjoy life again. Sure you'll feel ugly, unloved and other bad things, thats depression talking but you're not any of those bad things. You are instead a hero showing great courage in difficult circumstances.

I just hope your depression ends soon, you deserve it. I tried to do the same as you with depression and luckily managed it too for many years on and off ,so if you want any tips that might help you pm me and I'll tell you a few things I found useful.

i don't often applaud broken shells but you deserve a round.

Olderal, thank you very much, I do try everyday. I have been on medication for 10-15 years but think it is time for my doctor to change the medication I am on at the minute.. Effexor xl. I have broke down on one occasion with 2people I do not know but it seemed more like a panic attack. Have to say though I do not see myself as a hero but thankyou. I would love some advice, I will send you a pm. Thankyou for your help and advice x

Hi,

Be careful coming off Effexor...I've heard that they're one of the more difficult to come off so do it slowly and under supervision. I have been on them at the max dose for 15 years with reboxetine to back them up.

Please don't take this as a negative, it's good that you want to be off them. I just wouldn't like you to feel as if you'd failed if you jumped in headlong with no support.
