trying to think of 3 nice things - which was very hard to start with, but gets easier with practice,

such as birdsong; sunshine - or a refreshing rain shower; or realising that I'd forgotten for a short time that I was depressed - maybe because I was listening to a song or watching tv.

I go for a walk and look at all the wonderful nature around me. I am lucky to live in a pretty place so it's easy. But, walking does release good endorphins which make you feel better so it doesn't matter where you live really. takes your mind off things too. Wishing you well. xx

music is a powerful mood changer for me. A few years ago I deleted all my slushy / bluesy tracks and make a point of only recording positive or neutral songs. If its a realy bad day I dig out the sillyist funniest songs I can, I have quite a few I have taped over the years from c+w and folk radio. I must try and find something daft in classical music, after all they have had a few centuries to work on it..

I keep away from movies / soap operas they have too many tearjerker moments, but I am slowly getting a collection of films. Realy I try to aim for anything that helps to see the ridiculous side of life and stops me taking things so seriously.

Most of my books now have cartoon and jokes glued into them from old cut up cartoon books so no matter how serious the book I don't have to go far before raising a smile. Guess the same can be done with electronic files.

Have you tried useing a positive journal/scrapbook , jotting down positive stuff in your day, the local area or just stuff that captures your imagination. Just as an anchor to remind yourself of when you start to drift away.

Try diy-stress-relief.com/funny... course there is lots more daft stuff out there too

Keeping a journal - plus a record of three positive things each day

Playing with my 'small furries'

Trying to stick to a plan

Music - for me classical or Christian worship music

Using my modifications to Optimism.exe.

Various helplines

Having contact with someone I love. That's the only thing that helps when I'm at my lowest. If it's just a normal kind of low and not distress then I find anything that distracts me, which might be sunshine, flowers in the garden, music, strawberries or cherries - I'm eating loads of those at the moment - anything really that I like and makes me feel positive about being alive.

Making a choice to do anything. Step into the garden, go for a walk, start a job or revisit something I can move forward. Anything I can claim success at doing something rather than accepting my situation.

Music, a film, drawing, writing. Small things but with big effects.

Going for a brisk 30min walk works every time.

I think you know what makes you happy. BUT.

What helps is conveying your feelings, writing, speaking about how you feel.

Speak to a positive friend/family member, Go somewhere quiet to relax.

Eat some good food avoid drink.

All the best Andy

I've found that just being with other people ,maybe even in a shop ,makes me happy A smile or even a word with people at the till or the bus stop, is a great help. Go out among people-they are what life is all about (I think)but that's just my way -we all find the best way for us. The SMALL things in life are the most precious.
