I would like to know why i am feeling happy around my friends but then i feel like i should shut my self away and not talk to anyone?
typical symptom of depression ...I have felt that way for many years .. have you tried telling your friends your feelings and fears .. ? My only advise is as follows .please don't lock your self away .It is always best to talk . talk to your gp . and never ever give up on your self
Hi,
It sounds to me as though you're punishing yourself for being happy by shutting down. Low self esteem and depression do often go hand in hand. I would advise a chat with your GP.
Good luck,
Lorraine
I agree with the others, but I'm not clear, do you feel like you should shut yourself away when you are with them? Or before / after? Are you able to give a couple of examples of what you mean? X
You could also be an introvert. We can enjoy being with people, and find them stimulating, but after a time we become, as one book says, "peopled out" and need time alone to recharge our batteries - unlike extroverts who find solitary pursuits may drain them and they recharge their batteries by interacting with people. Neither is right or wrong - just different!
A talk with your GP or a counsellor about self-esteem issues and depression might well help. In your time alone you may find things that help - perhaps music, scents, certain things to feel and taste etc., and relaxation or mindfulness CDs can be great. Although mindfulness has Buddhist roots, it is now 'westernised' and can help people of any faith or none.
Good luck - Ann (Myers-Briggs ISTJ, Christian, with pain and depression problems.

You are obviously feeling low and that will affect your confidence and then you criticise yourself. Chatting to your gp should help re a plan to help you. You are not alone and others have felt like this. I have felt before that I'm hiding behind a mask, and my face is tense from it all! It exhausting! It's normal to feel like 'a fraud' when you are depressed and trying to 'ignore' how you feel if you get my drift? Some counselling may help you, have a think xx
