Finasteride reversion

I've been on finasteride for almost a year for BPH with excellent results, reducing nighttime activity from 4-5x to 1-2, but for the last week or so I've reverted to 4-5x every night. Has anyone else experienced this? No habits changed or other drugs introduced. I'm trying to investigate the possibility of a faulty batch of finasteride, having just started a new supply, but this seems to be a fairly remote possibility. Any thoughts?Ray

Sorry to hear that. Are you sure you don’t have a urinary tract infection causing the change in symptoms?

i’ve been on finasteride and tamsulosin for a couple of years also, and you’re right it’s only about one or two times per night. I’m still told not to drink much after 6:30 pm however and do notice I have to get more times if I do so!

It happened to me. I use medicine for prostate enlargement. However it is an "alpha blocker" that relaxes the bladder to increase flow and so is not a hormone modifier, like Finisteride that eventually shrinks the prostate size, but same story otherwise. I can tell the next day if I miss a pill. So I noticed a change and had not missed my medication so I called the pharmacy to ask about the medicine. The pharmacist told me they just had a different provider and that sometimes you have to get used to the new pills and fillers for a month or so but they were going to change back to the former provider anyway. So they did and things are back to normal.

I notice things that affect flow and quantity are salt intake, nervousness, vegetarian vs non vegetarian, certain spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, adequate daytime hydration, orgasm (seems to cause harder flow starting) for a few hours.

It helps to buy inexpensive urine test strips over the counter and test for infection, kidney function, etc (10 items) in a couple of minutes. Easy to get an infection as we age.

A doctor said to double void ---void a gain a few minutes later, at bedtime. It may eliminate one voiding and clean out the bladder better, I guess. Caution: they to not to double void often because the bladder will get used to having less volume and cause you to need to go more often all the time. Then you will need to practice not voiding quickly but don't go too long.

Checking the volume each time can help you keep an eye on color, contaminants and volume and be reassured and give a sense of control.

hi Ray

Almost identical experience after been on Finasteride for 6 months- had urine test within 2 days results clear no infection . Doc ordered ultrasound of urinary system and kidneys result small kidney stones identified . Seemingly very common and clear themselves with a lot of hydration and further sleep disruption
