Hello,

I hope it's ok for me to post here, and I hope you're all doing well given the current circumstances.

I am a PhD researcher at the University of Strathclyde, and I research the history of vasectomy in Britain, looking at things like why it became more popular, how attitudes towards it changed, and so on.

As part of my research, I am interviewing men who got a vasectomy in Britain before 1990, to ask about things like how they came to that decision, what they felt about it, and so on. I have already conducted some interviews and they are incredibly helpful for my research as well as (I hope) being an interesting experience for my interviewees.

All the interviews can be done by phone, skype, or zoom (whichever you prefer), at a time that suits you, and they can be anonymous or only using your first name, whatever you feel more comfortable with. If you have any more questions or might be willing to take part, please email me on georgia.grainger@strath.ac.uk

Also, if you know anyone else who might fit the bill (friends, relatives, etc), please consider sharing this with them! The more the merrier!

Has your research got appropriate ethical approval and is it subject to informed consent.

Hi there, thanks for your question!

I should have made it clearer in the text, but as stated on the attached image, yes it has been approved by my university's ethics committee. The research is conducted in line with the Oral History Society's best practices, and I work out of both the Scottish Oral History Centre and the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare, and follow their guidance. Additionally, I've undertaken oral history training, including on ethics and participant consent, by the NHS at 70 project, the Scottish Oral History Centre, University of Dundee, and several other bodies. All participants get information sheets ahead of the interview which we go through together and they sign if they choose to continue with the interview.

Thanks for the info. Wishing you well with your research.

Had a vasectomy in the 1970,s and then developed prostate cancer and that left me with ED. To this day I have hard time getting a erection. Pills or shots!
