need help

Hello everyone!

I return to this blog as one of my last resorts. 7 months ago I had unprotected oral sex. All STIs tests are negative. All the candida tests I did so far (at least 6) are negative. Pharyngeal exudates and nasal exudates came back negative. Blood tests are normal. After more than half a year I still have a coated tongue, dry and sticky lips, mild pharyngitis, clogged ears, dry nose and a very thick mucous in the back of my throat (symptoms which started 3 days after my sexual contact ***plus I had a lesion at the corner of my mouth which went away after one week) Recently I started to have some headaches that are more severe in the mornings, when there is more mucous acumulated in my throat as well.

So far I have been to at least 30 doctors (GP, ENT, dermatology, infectious diseases, oral and maxilofacial, stomathology). All the doctors are staring at me and keep senting me from one specialist to another.

Last stomathologist I went to told me it's a candida infection and it's possible that the tests won't pick it up. However, so far I took fluconazole and nystatine pills in 3 rounds (1 week) but with absolutely no effect.

Some time ago I followed the advice af a doctor and rubbed my tongue 2 times per day with a mix of Vit A and B, acyclovir, nystatine and glycerin but I ended up only hurting my tongue more.

The thing is my entire oral cavity is affected, including the throat.

I don't know what this migh be, neither the doctors.

all tests were done in Bucharest (apart from the STIs test which I did in London at 4 months and 2 weeks after the sexual contact).

I reached a dead end.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi,

It sounds like you've had quite a time of it! I would highly recommend that you see a GP in the UK and ask for a referral to an endocrinologist. It's also worth being retested for HIV and syphilis, as they can sometimes take longer than a few months, to register as positive upon testing - let me emphasize though - that this is highly unusual, so please don't worry! If these endeavours don't return a result, ask for a referral to a gastroenterologist, as the chronic inflammation and excessive mucous production, could be Crohn's Disease, manifesting in the throat and oral cavity. However, it could just as easily be chronic sinusitis, creating excessive mucous production and irritation to the mucous membranes. Have you received any antibiotic treatment? I know you've already seen an ENT specialist, but did they perform any detailed diagnostics, such as a camera led investigation via the nostrils?

thank you for your reply. I did the full STIs tests at two different wallkin clinics in London at 4 months and 2 weeks after the risky exposure (gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, Hep B and C). Everything is negative. Everyone assured me the results are final and conclusive.

That's great news! As I said, maybe explore the other options to rule out Crohn's, and an endocrinologist to check for any other cause such as glandular issues or something systematic, such as lupus - or possibly even allergies. Hope it all goes well! Take care 🙂

Hi!

Last ENT doctor diagnosed my condition as Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR). I did an endoscopy 3 months ago...the result was "minimum lesions of esophagitis Grade A (Los Angeles)".

The ENT told me it's silent reflux...... I was prescribed Lanzoprazole for 2 months. The only problem is that I had already taken Nexium for 1 month after the endoscopy with absolutely no effect. I don't believe this diagnosis.

I was advised to take VSL#3 good bacteria and it worked well for me

My problem was caused by this:

Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae)

cdc.gov/hai/organisms/klebs...

I returned with it from Ireland/Dublin (I live in Easten Europe).

Absoluletely all STDs/STIs tests were negative. Throat swabs and sputum were negative several times for absolutely everithing (I sincerely don't know why).

I got lucky when I went to an extremly dedicated and patient doctor in Warsaw (Poland). I spent aprox 1 hour in her office and went together through the piles of analyses I had done in 18 months. She deciced to test me for some unusual things ---- the tests came back positive for Klebsiella pneumoniae. I have/had it in my oral cavity, throat and esofagus.

Tomorrow I finish the antibiotics. I already feel better than ever before.

My tongue looks similar to what you posted. Doctors are saying that it looks normal, but I feel like it has more white stuff than most normal tongues, and I too need to get this looked at. It doesn't appear to be thrush per say, but it does seem like an overgrowth. I'll keep this thread saved. Any chance you'd be willing to post a picture of what your tongue looks like now?
