Gents, has anyone on here had the procedure done? I am getting it done soon and was wondering if anyone has had it done and if it's painful?

Hi, del1d.

Do you mean cystoscopy? I have a flexible cystoscopy every six to nine months following bladder cancer about four years ago.

No, mine is not painful, but mildly uncomfortable. The usual procedure is to squirt some anaesthetic gel into your urethra and then insert the camera.

You may have a little bleeding after the procedure and you may find that you experience some stinging when you urinate, but that shouldn't last more than a few hours - a day at most.

Follow the hospital's instructions and you'll be fine!

Absolutely nothing to be concerned or worried about.

Hope that helps.

Good luck and all the very best,

Peter A

Hi Peter, I am getting the cystoscopy done as after my circumcision which I had done in May I am still urinating 2 streams of pee at times not all the time but when I pee it squirts out like a V shape. Quite annoying so the surgeon said having a cystoscopy can cure this? What do you think? Del.

HI Del,

I'll show my ignorance here, but to the best of my knowledge a cystoscopy is a procedure to look into the urethra and/or bladder. I now have flexible cystoscopies, but originally had a rigid cystocopy (which is my case was done under a general anaesthetic) which allowed the surgeon to remove the small tumour which was developing in my bladder. If your surgeon suggests that the procedure will correct the condition which is causing you to 'spray', then perhaps he/she is proposing a rigid cystoscopy. I am sorry that I do not possess sufficient technical/medical knowledge to comment on the likely outcome, other than to suggest you ask your surgeon precisely what they propose to do and how it will benefit you.

To be honest, I was circumcised many years ago now, and still have the problem of 'spraying'. No one ever suggested to me that a remedy was possible, and so have just lived with the slight inconvenience it causes.

Good luck, and may I ask you to let me know how this proceeds? PM me if you prefer.

Good luck and kindest regards,

Peter A

Sounds fishy. Two streams are occurring becaus the meatus was disturbed by the circumcision. Generally, during the procedure, the frenulum is cut or removed, that causing tension on on the meatus. When you pee, try using fingers to hold the meatus open.

Cystoscopy where?

Go with a sedation. I had it and it was totally fine.

Do you have Meatal Stenosis?

my.clevelandclinic.org/heal...

I am 7 weeks post circumcision surgery and mostly the urine spraying

problem is gone. But still once in a while my urine sprays.

Is your urine spraying all the time.

I am afraid of Meatal Stenosis. Please keep updated what course

of treatment the your urologist undertake.

Thanks.Good luck.Take care.

That’s a very common side effect of circumcision.

I had one a couple of years ago to remove a kidney stone. It was under general anaesthetic. When I woke there was some blood down there and it felt like I was pissing glass for the first few times. There was also quite a bit of blood on my urine - my wife freaked when she saw it. But it did get better over a 2-3 days and clear up.

The most harrowing experience for me was when I had the stent that was left in for a few weeks removed by flexible cystoscopy whilst I was awake. It was very painful when it passed the prostate. Though I’m not sure if it would need to go that far in your case so may not be an issue. It wasn’t a pleasant experience to be honest but necessary.

You shouldn’t experience pain, but you’ll definitely feel it. Nothing to be overly concerned about.
