I was previously a patient with a phimosis problem, I was never able to pull back my foreskin so I got circumcised. I currently do not feel any pain when the penis is untouched however when the head is touched it is extremely painful, so I just walk around naked at home and haven’t gone out since because wearing underwear cause too much discomfort. Is there any tips on how I can overcome this and when I will expect the head to become desensitised enough to wear underwear

Circumcision Day 9
Hello! I am similar boat to you, I was circumcised 17 days ago so feel free to message me any point if want to go through this together, I’ve found this site to be great to talk through others who have been or going through it, it’s mentally tough isn’t it. Regarding the sensitivity luckily touch wood this isn’t an issue I’ve had really, I didn’t know otherwise so went straight to normal underwear straight away and that seems ok for me. But there seems plenty on here who have struggled with sensitivity. I have heard Vaseline around the tip can be useful or padding in underwear to try and stop it. Hopefully others will give further advice but if just want a friend to chat to going through similar also just a week ahead of your recovery let me know
Hi thanks for your response, it’s great that you’re recovering so well, I wish I could relate. But the sensitivity is just . I don’t feel like it’s changed one bit. Therefore I just walk around naked. But I need to go to work next week. Therefore I’ve just planned on wearing a condom with a cricket box ontop which will be beneath my underwear to protect it. I tried applying Vaseline but it was too much pain to touch it. At the moment the only thing that I don’t mind it getting in contact with is water aswell as liquids like bio oil. I heard it helps with the scars, do you think I should carry on using it or not. Also how long did it take for your sensitivity to settle? Thanks
No worries, always reach out if needs, from what I’ve learnt on here we’re all in this together. I think from what I’ve learnt so far is everyone is different, and it might be from what you could do before I.e. could head expose when soft previously. For me I could so I think I came from a position of being a little used to the sensitive just now it’s been a little more heightened. But that’s not to say you won’t get used to it, I think time is the greatest healer so if you need to take the measures like a cricket box until you feel more ready to not have it then think that’s a great idea to do. I read someone else put on a different thread that were all on different journeys in this recovery and if yours takes longer to get used to then that’s your journey but long term well all reach that same end goal. I put Vaseline on tip of foreskin rim that’s left now when go out but that’s just to stop the friction and discomfort. I haven’t used oils yet, I think I’m gonna wait until stitches are out and then use them to try sort the scarring and loosen bits down there. Sensitivity for me is still there, I’m trying to push through but it’s been the same over the few weeks so far id say. I just try not let it bother my day to day and just try ignore as much as can. Hope that helps, as said reach out any time.
Hey! Welcome to the club!
There’s really only one way to dull that sensitivity/pain and that’s with exposure. If you can start to wear underwear it will help a LOT and happen quicker than you might expect. I’d strongly recommend tight underwear. It’ll make contact but you’ll get used to the sensation and it does get better quite quickly (or did for me).
Vaseline definitely helps protect the head but in all honestly you want the opposite because the sooner you’re able to expose the glans the better.
It’s tough but it does get better, so so much better.
Good luck!
I have tried wearing tight underwear these past few days but the pain is just unbearable, so I’m just walking around naked. But I have to return to work next week so I am thinking of using a condom with a cricket box ontop, and just walk round naked at home. Do you reckon the sensitivity will just decrease on it own over time? Also did you wear underwear straight from the get go? Thanks for your reply this really helps.
I certainly did not wear underwear from the get go, I spent about 2 weeks just completely freaking out, walking at a 45 degree angle and screaming like a 5 year old.
I found coating a gauze with Vaseline and using a cricket cup actually meant I could function a little earlier than I would have been able to but in all honesty that just prolonged recovery. The exposure it the key but you’re day 9. I was only really completely comfortable about 6-8 weeks in and even then there was more healing ahead. I’m now approaching a year and it’s… awesome. It’s incredibly unlikely you’re gonna regret this but you might need more recovery time (doing very little) than you’d anticipated?
do you think wrapping my penis in a sterile gauze is a better idea than using a condom?
So if I’m not wrong you kept your penis wrapped in a gauze with Vaseline and using a cricket box on top of that underneath the underwear to cover it from making contact with your underwear for 6 weeks right?
Not quite. I coated a relatively thick medical gauze in a thick layer of Vaseline and then padded the cup with it. Kind of like a cushion. That meant when it did make contact it didn’t hurt. But I didn’t do that for 6 weeks - I should have mentioned this first time round - if you have issues touching it, it’s INSANELY hard to clean off (the vaseline) so it can cause potentially more issues. Things get better quite rapidly once you start healing properly but you’re still very early in the process
Oh ok thanks for mentioning the cleaning bit, I would have been screwed cause touching hurts. I might just cover it with condom that’s thick or maybe some bandages like they did on the first day of the surgery and avoid Vaseline for now. So what were the stages that you went through in terms of protection of the penis from underwear, if you could give a time line like 2 weeks in etc. aswell if you don’t mind thanks so much.
Hey! Sorry it’s taken so long for me to get back to you! in terms of “stages”, I’m not so sure I could bracket it up like that but that cricket cup thing was very short lived.
I found something switched mentally for me around the point you’re coming up to - the three week mark. The unavoidable exposure at night, the night erections - as horrendous as they are, they helped a lot in terms of keratinisation I think and it began to feel less sensitive naturally. It should be noted I never expected it to become comfortable. I had set myself for a life of discomfort (dramatic, I know).
One really helpful thing for me that my partner reminded me of is that around 2/3 weeks, I contacted the doctor about sensitivity vs cleanliness and she gave me a numbing gel. I had to drop it on from a height before a bath and let it run down (as I couldn’t smear it in by hand) but it helped massively. The first time I did that, whether it was placebo or not, I was able to handle it and properly clean it.
I’ve no idea if you’re going through the same mental crisis I went through but if so just know it does get better (for the VAST majority) 🫶
I re-read your question and will answer it properly 🤣
Weeks 0-2 - Blind panic, living hell, using a thick gauze to create an arch to avoid it making contact with anything and barely moving. Walking upstairs like a fool.
Weeks 2-3 - Cricket cup and Vaseline - helpful for getting things done, but a last resort as discussed.
Weeks 3-5 - Things rapidly improved and I no longer needed to “protect” it. The numbing agent helped but I only used it once. Like I say it was like a switch. Tight underwear to avoid it swinging around and rubbing more than necessary.
I’d definitely say don’t expect anything to happen at the same time it did for me! Everyone is so different it would seem
