Post Circumcision Tips

Just after some advice and tips,

I'm a few hours post op (not feeling anything yet) my penis was never sensitive as I could retract when flaccid so don’t for see an issue there.

I'm just wanting to know

- when to remove the dressing the guidance says it may drop of but if it doesn't I assume after 24 hours.

- if the pain is high on a scale of 1-10.

- how best to position I know the guidance they give says upright so I’m going to try and follow that I’m just conscious it may hurt.

Any underwear advice would be helpful I bought some cotton hipster boxers from Primark as they’re soft and have elasticity so will keep everything in place any other suggestions welcome ☺️

Thanks in advance

Why did you have your circumcision done? Have you searched the forum for post-operation tips. There are a lot of them there.

I can only speak from my experience, but I removed the bandage after about 24 hours (per doctor's advice). Soak in a bath for ten minutes or so before you start.

With the underpants, I found that boxers aren't great. Best solution for me was very soft boxers with a pair of briefs over the top to hold everything still and in place. You can direct the penis up better that way than in just boxers.

Thanks! For the advice, I’m currently wearing slips which seem to be best for me, plan to remove the bandage the evening, can I ask if you were in any pain? I’m a bit sensitive but I’m not experiencing any pain per say don’t know if that changes when the bandage is removed

From my own experience there wasn't a lot of pain. I never used the strong painkillers my urologist prescribed. Discomfort, especially with nighttime erections, but not sharp pain. For me, I was able to walk to work (20 minutes walk) a few days later. Others have had very different experiences though.

I wouldn't rush to wear pants if you can help it once the bandage comes off. The operation is quite rough on the old chap so plenty of air and Vaseline were what I was told.

My bandage came off after 2 days - soaked it off in the bath. Then spent the next week or so just chilling with cock out, then wrapped up with sterile swabs and Vaseline held in by surgical support pants for the next few weeks - helped me walk normally. By week 6 was in microfibre seamless pants and back to Vaseline and sterile swabs whenever needed. Now at week 11 I've been in the same microfibre pants without swabs since week 8/9.

No real pain, just discomfort and some minor bleeding at the frenulum. Anything more uncomfortable I just took Paracetamol - Ibuprofen upset my tummy.

Microfibre seamless pants: amazon.co.uk/dp/B07J5CWZ6G?...

Surgical support pants: amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08...

Swabs: amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08...

It won't feel like it for a bit, but you'll bounce back quickly and by week 8 or so you'll be well on your way to feeling better.

Thanks for the advice! My surgeon and nurse advised tight pants to support the penis in the upright position with some Vaseline if I found it to stick. Touch wood I’m pain free with the bandage removed now and have slight discomfort. I was a bit of a strange case as I was circumcised on the ground that my foreskin was tight when erect but fine when flaccid, thanks for the links I’ll look into some support underwear 👍

I was exactly the same - foreskin could roll back flaccid (but I also had adhesions) and not rollable when erect. Steroids might have loosened the foreskin, but would still have left the adhesions, so a circ was the only way to go. Vaseline is a good friend for a while to come, get to know it. Reach out if you need anything at all - even just to vent.

Hi,I can see you are from the UK. Where did you have your surgery done? I have NHS referral but will probably do it privately.

If you have the insurance or cash to go private then it will help the NHS waiting lists to go down! A lot of guys have used London clinics but most private hospitals will usually cover the surgery. If you have insurance, that may dictate the hospitals you can use.

I don't recommend the NHS. The NHS makes circumcisions very loose. For good sex, a "tight" circumcision is much better. So look for a private surgeon. You don't skimp on your penis, you don't skimp on your future sex.

Oh really, I’m in the Uk and found some trusts across the country advise different things, my trust advised 24-48 hours but mine fell off. I wish the guidance was uniform I’ve been left quite confused

I got lucky mine didn't fall off after 4 days but doc told me if it falls off sooner it's not a big problem

Well buddy , After 48 hours you can take out the first bandage .I will tell you how I managed for four weeks .. I bought bandage and tape and wet wipes and yes non alcoholic wet wipes, please never apply alcoholic wet wipes till wound is healed completely it will sting like hell. So I removed bandage every day, wash my hands with soap , clean the penis with non alcoholic wet wipes and then apply anti bacterial cream and bandaged penis and then applied tape , I follow this routine for three weeks and once the silicon ring came off I started applying medicinal oil namely " lookman hayat oil " it's comprising mostly of mustard oil and I used to bandage so that the oil remains till about 6th week, so you can wear underwear with this routine as your penis will be bandaged .After six weeks my skin healed and fused completely and then I got used to it and now it's been a tension free six months for me ..
