Urination terrible since adult circumcision. Is that normal?

Hi, I'm new here and would appreciate any insight people have on this most unexpected and annoying development.

TL;DR: Since being circumcised 9 days ago, I have rapidly developed urinary hesitancy and intermittency, problems that I have never had before.

FULL STORY: I'm mid-30s and opted for a circumcision due to phimosis. The phimosis was considered "mild" by my urologist, but I was sick and tired of hurting after sex, and my wife was sick and tired of me complaining about it.

I'm 9 days post-surgery, and most of what has happened was to be expected: light bleeding that stopped after 3 days, painful but manageable night erections, slowly decreasing glans sensitivity. In other words, not fun, but very typical and showing expected signs of getting better with time.

What was unexpected: peeing everywhere except into the toilet (to the left, to the right, onto my underwear). Like someone held their finger on the opening of a garden hose.

I never had a problem like this before. I have always peed in a single straight line. Day 3 post-surgery, I noticed my pee stream was a little diverted to the left, but still one stream. Between days 4 and 6, my stream became what it is now, which is embarrassing and totally unmanageable. I get more pee on my penis and legs than I get into the toilet!

The best advice would be to call my urologist, right? I have called his office three times this week. They ask me if the stitches are bleeding or have pus (they don't), if my pee burns (it doesn't), or if I have blood in my urine (I don't). The pee is normal and it doesn't burn, although it irritates my glans because it splashes everywhere, but that's not the same as burning. Today I had had enough and demanded to be seen. They ultrasounded my bladder and found that I was not full, so they sent me home without any idea or advice on what to do. They didn't even want to look at my penis. No blood or pus? No fever? Well, we don't know why you have problem aiming, but it's not our problem. Extremely annoying.

My questions for you are:

1. What might be causing this?

2. Is it likely to get better with time as I heal from the circumcision?

3. If this is unusual, is it easy to fix?

4. (Just for fun) Why is my urologist blowing me off?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I seriously never thought I would be urinating on myself so early in life.

Circ shouldn't affect your peeing, how ever it you know your member better than any one. It might take some time to get used to the new you. you may feel different for a while, peeing, during sex, masturbation etc. sometimes a sharp pain.

Circumcision can affect your peeing temporarily - often as a result of swelling. Give it some time for you to to recover from surgery. You are very early in he healing process.

Possibly your meatus is swollen and is redirecting the flow all over the place.

What you describe commonly happens, and it passes in most cases. You no doubt still have swelling, which in itself can change the flow and feelings. You probably also have your frenulum tampered with, maybe causing a slight deflection. Nerves in the area have been disturbed, so it could take a while to get full control back. When risk of opening the wound is past, very gently massage the area where the frenulum attachment was severed, and rub gently over the meatus to help prevent stenosis. You will probably completely adjust within sux weeks.

In my case the stream is coming separated in 2.

I dont think it will change. I am in my 4th/5th month already.

Any advise?

Try fiddling with the little lips of the meatus before releasing the stream. Spread them apart and hold them during the flow.

after 2 or 3 weeks post surgery and still now, after 4 months my urine is coming out in 2 very separate streams.

I totally understand you, hope it will go back to normal soon.

When I was uncircumcised l, the urine was coming out in 1 line which I could control. Now I cannot any more. Basically I can target 1 of the 2 streams and the other one goes just off...

I thought it was because the head is no longer covered and the underwear changed its shape.

Please advise if any solution.

In my case, that was totally normal for the first few months.

I think it is a lot to do with the swelling of the urethra and the penis getting used to having the meatus exposed to material all the time.

I'm now 10 months in and it has pretty much improved to the point where it barely happens.

I do notice it still happens after ejaculating though, either through excess cum still being in the urethra or due to the opening being slightly smaller when erects.

Otherwise, I would just give it time! Your penis arguably has just been through some trauma so it takes time for everything to settle and heal. :)

Listen up buddy, it happened to me in the first week and even some days into the second week. It's just that the foreskin was providing the aim to the urine flow. Just give it a little time, don't pull your skin back or hold on to the head while peeing. The body will get used to the feeling of not having the foreskin soom. Also don't keep the bandage or dressing too tight. You can lift your penis up with your index finger under the shaft while peeing. Don't worry, it is completely normal, there's no meatus inflammation whatsoever. Keep updating!

I was the same and still occasionally now years after my Op.

I find a quick 'tug' or shake will have me back in line.

Worse issue is when I sit on toilet and start to pee, then stream goes up between seat and bowl ! It can get messy if I not quick.

3 days later, things are improving. Not normal by any means, but urine stream is now only deflecting at the last 25% of pee. I don't want to jinx it and get over confident, but the last 24 hours have been a lot better.

Hi nanospray20 i have the same problem and also flaking skin on the bell end i have no pain i am 5month post op can I ask you if you have any flaking skin thanks

Good to hear, I started spraying everywhere 2 days post circ, now I’m 9 days post and I’m still having to sit down to pee in order to avoid making a mess. Glad to know it will resolve itself

Your situation is common, but it's temporary until swelling subsides.

So good news for you. Same thing happened to me. Your urethra is a little swollen but it will go down and you will be able to pee with accurate aim like you once did before. It took me 3 weeks to heal to get a straight stream again. I was peeing in the shower or in a plastic container because of the splatter up until that point.

Answers to your questions:

1. Swollen urethra tip on the glans.

2. Yes. It took me 3 weeks. I am a type 2 diabetic with blood thinning medication.

3. Not unusual. you just have to wait it out. Swelling will go down.

4. It's common, and we are over-reacting.

Accidental spraying onto the floor instead of into the toilet after adult circumcision has frustratingly continued for many years for me. While sitting on the toilet, my former long foreskin directed urine down into the toilet. Now I must push my penis down with fingers to try to aim properly. It does not always work. Am thankful though to not to have an itchy foreskin that I felt allergic to. Getting circumcised was the best thing I have done for myself in life. I only wish I had been circumcised at birth.
