Circumcision under local anaesthetic would you recommend it or not ?

How painful is it ?

can't make up my mind if to get done under or general, but thinking more of local as dont take a day or two get over where as general does.

Any advice would be great

A general anaesthetic is gross overkill for a short duration , external procedure such as circumcision. It upsets your entire system and puts an extra strain on your heart and lungs.

You need a companion with you for 24 hours after the procedure (unless staying in hospital for that period) since your decision making will be compromised and you therefore cannot look after yourself at that time.

Only in exceptional cases can a general be justified and therefore local anaesthetic should be the norm for all infant, teen and adult circumcisions.

I had first one done under general and revision under local. Much preferred local. Didn't feel any pain, just a bit of pulling. No after effects of local anesthetic. Had a sore throat for a week after general.

completely agree with the other replies. Local is fine - no pain just some tugging and light pressure. Recovery time in the hospital is way, way shorter and you can get home sooner. I've always been told that you should always have local unless general is mandated. Good Luck

Hi. I had mine done yesterday under general, was asleep.It was the hospitals choice and I was happy with that...

I as I didn't feel or know what was being done to me, which I was ok with each had thier own preference.

It was a fairly easy process went home the same day and today is day 1 of recovery so still very fresh in my mind....

And this was just my experience yesterday and so far I am happy.

Just hope I will be okay to return back to work next week after 5 days at home

I had mine done under local and it went fine with minimal pain. I have always been fearful of needles so, for me, the worst part was getting the abdominal injections (but that's just me).

My Circ' was under General and I prefered it that way, not that I was given a choice. Some weeks later I had to go back for a Biopsy. That was under local, a rather strange procedure with me layin on the bed with a young Nurse holding my Dick. And I could not feel a thing. 🤔

I had local and sedation, much better you don’t need a GA as that takes a few days to get over

When i had mine don3 i had local. Nothing wrong with it, no pain just someone tugging at your area which was weird mlre so not being able to feel it haha. I was done at 19 so was rather nervous. Now 25
