Keeping your penis pointing upwards helps to reduce swelling by allowing excess lymph to more easily drain back into your body instead of collecting in the 'blind end' of the penis.

There is no specific time to keep it up, but at least until the stitches/staples are out (about 2 weeks) and swelling starts to reduce.
