4 weeks on from my circumcision I've just got my histology results back. They sent the foreskin away for analysis because the surgeon was more than a little concerned that it might be penile cancer. All clear fortunately, no evidence of pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. It's a very rare cancer but still worth making your GP aware if you have severe phimosis, balanitis, or inflammation as those conditions can mask penile cancer. There's only around 600 cases per year in the UK (to give you an idea of how rare that compares with 250 for male breast cancer, 2400 for testicular, and 52,000 for prostate cancer). As with all things cancerous, catching them early is important and treatment is usually minimally invasive (chemotherapy cream) and successful.

Good news and also a timely reminder to our members of early presentation at the doctors to gain assurance but also to ensure an early diagnosis of any cancer.
