Hello I have been suffering from balantitis for about 5 months now. Doctors have prescribed me with hydrocortisone and that didn't help.
I went to a new dr and she prescribed me clotrimazole and has helped a lot actually. It took away the burn I had in the glans in about 5 days and the redness after about 2 weeks.
However my glans is still shiny and a little red when erect and still have some red spots on the glans. Also it gets really dry after erection kinda like its dried out. Could it be because of the cream?
I have used the max time (4 weeks) for the cream but idk if I should continue using it? Is the cream keeping my head dry?
It started after rough sex with my gf and I had gotten a cut on my foreskin which I think triggered an infection. Thankfully the clotrimazole cream took away the burning pain.
Should I go see a urologist?

Is it possible to you to keep your foreskin retracted couple of weeks at least. Then the moisture balance on foreskin and penis glans will be different than normal. Dermatologist may help too.
clotrimazole Helped me. I’m diabetic and got balanitis due to thrush. It kept coming back. My doctors gave me clotrimazole and told me to use it for 3 months. I have not had balanitis since. I was told by my doctors that clotrimazole can be used long term with no problems.
Ohh so I have been using it for 1 month already and now the only problem I have is dryness on the glans after sex. Maybe I should ask for a stronger medication?
The way that my doctors explained it to me was that the clotrimazole clears the fungal infection but doesn’t have any affect on the fungal spores. The spores only have a short life span. If you continue to use the clotrimazole after clearing the fungal infection to prevent the spores from developing into fungus they will die off. This made sense to me. The clotrimazole never had any adverse effects on my penis in fact I think since I stopped using it my glans feels slightly dry and sticky. You should get a swab to check that it is a fungal infection that is causing your balanitis. Taking antibiotics can also cause balanitis due to disrupting the good bacteria balance under your foreskin.
Your second doctor has cured the underlying issue. Now, apply a thin layer of coconut oil after your daily cleaning Do not use soap, as that will worsen conditions. Use plain water, pat dry, apply coconut oil. Coconut has natural anti/viral properties.
Beware of over use of clotrimazole; I used it for too long on a recurring ear problem and eventually had a violent allergic reaction. Coconut oil is a good idea.
I've had it for 6 months (2 months on, 2 months it was gone, then it came back). I think there's this sense among some docs that you can take anti-fungal meds for a few days or so and all will be well forever. That's not my experience. The first time around I was on ketoconazole to begin with, then nystatin, both creams. The symptoms went away but, again, came back 2 months later. I started on clotrimazole for 2 weeks, then switched to nystatin and oral fluconazole for 2 weeks. I also used hydrogen peroxide once but it really burned my foreskin to the point that it was peeling off. The fungal symptoms have subsided but I have redness from irritation. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the fungal infection is over... those things are persistent bastards. So I'm going to finish my nystatin/oral fluconazole course soon and then will likely switch back to clotrimazole for a month or so and then just daily saline solution washes. The clotrimazole is much less irritating than the nystatin. I got mine from not showering for 1-2 weeks. I'm a normal dude I just got hit with some heavy, bad events and sort of drowned in my own misery isolated alone at home for 2 weeks. If it comes back a third time for me, I'm planning on not doing anything first except washing with water, then going to the doc to get a mycological exam, then asking for 12 weeks of daily oral terbinafine that I'll combine with clotrimazole. Anyways... that's my story/plan.
have dealt with this for 8 months on and off. have tried antifunguls, oral diflucan, yeast creams. everything helps but hasn't cured. it comes and goes. oddly an oral antiviral helped the most. balantis can be many things. yeast, viral, bacterial. good luck.
