Does Lichen Sclerosus go away on its own?

Hello,

7 months ago I made this post: healthunlocked.com/mensheal...

I was diagnosed with LS today. I had circumcision done 3 days ago and just got the lab results of the foreskin today. The doc mentioned she saw I had LS on the gland as well. Do you think it'll go away on its own now that I'm circumcised? My surgeon told me to monitor closely as if it does get worse it can affect my urethra. Anyone have a similar experience?

I read a lot on it. I guess I would just like to know someone's first hand experience with it and if they had LS on their glands. If they did then did it go away with just circumcision alone?

Although circumcision can cure lichen sclerosus in some men, in others the condition may continue or change after surgery. Lichen sclerosus will not go away on its own but may not cause any symptoms when the correct treatments are used. You may need to see a dermatologist

Hi my doctor thinks I have the same condition. I had circumcision a week ago. My foreskin was sent to biopsy and awaiting results. I have some left on the glans and don't know whether this will go away or affect my urethra. Hoping that the foreskin was the problem and it doesn't get worse.o

Yup i got my biopsy today but my circumcision was on Tuesday. She just said to keep my eye on it and come back in 6 months. Hoping it goes away. I read another user on here had the same issue and his went away after circumcision. He said he did use ointment for a short time but the new environment for the glands made it go away. I guess LS develops more when there's moistness from the foreskin covering it. Btw did the lining where they stitched get swollen for you? If so how long did it take to go away?

I think I'm still healing from the circumcision. Swelling has reduced from my initial days but it's definiy there. Do you dress your wound or leave it free? I have been dressing for two three days with Vaseline as it feels more comfortable and makes it easy for me to sleep and move.

I took the dressing off after 48 hours and have left it free. Before circumcision I pulled my foreskin back for a few months then got used to it so im not as sensitive anymore on the glands. I havent had any pain at all and have been controlling the night/morning erections well. I do put on an ointment they gave me for the wound.

Hi Man, hopefully that will be the end of the LS for you now just keep an eye on it. keep in contact with your doctor you may need some steroid cream for a short period. But now that your glans are exposed it should improve in my case it did anyway I couldn't be dealing with the worrying and waiting with it and the maintenance and using steroid creams on a long-term basis much happier now after having the circumcision. 👍🏼

Good to hear it went well for you. I’m wanting to call my doc and try to get a steroid cream now instead of waiting to see what happens. So glad I got the surgery though, my foreskin and frenulum were annoying once LS came.

Hey Mac, I had another question. After circumcision, how long did LS take go away on your glands? Just a rough estimate if you remember?

Hey Man, it gradually faded away it probably took at least a couple of months but if I look really closely I can still see some very faint marks were it was. How's it going for you now?

Gotcha sounds good. I am healing pretty well right now. Have just got back into the gym. Seems like i got a low loose cut. I thought I was swollen in that area for a while but it’s just extra foreskin clumped up. Wish I would’ve had tighter foreskin there. Other than that I’ve been good, just hoping the LS goes away.

That's good man your back to the gym sounds like your healing well. The swelling will go down slowly and sometimes it can come back a bit after activity the skin can bunch up especially when your soft that's normal. It can take some time for the skin and scar to soften and become supple again I used some bio oil I found it very good. Hopefully you will be done with the LS now it can take time for the discoloration to go and you might always have some. It all sounds good for you it's a big change to go through and deal with but you're at the right side of it now. 👍🏼

Hey. I had circumcision 10 days ago, and also had a biopsy for LS. Doctor said he is 100% that it is LS. Looking at your photo, mine was worse. He said that hopefully it’ll go away after circumcision and we might explore steroid creams. Overall he said I won’t see actually results until at least 2 years - as in for the white to go away completely that was on the glands and near the fren (now removed). 24 years old btw.

Ah man so looks like it takes some time. I’ll just be on the lookout to see if it grows throughout these months. With the glands, did the LS change the texture there for you?

Ehm yes it did where the Fren was. It was more rough and not smooth. I did notice near the japs eye, to the right hand side it was becoming like more rough and red. Like little blisters. No I never had any itchiness with it etc. It just affect my fren where it was attaching itself to the glands so therefore couldn’t pull the forskin back anymore.

Anymore questions or that DM me 😀
