Male Genital Lichen Sclerosus/BXO

Hi all,

I’m now a month into my treatment with Dermovate following my diagnoses of lichen Sclerosus. Nothing has changed really for me, I’ve still got some redness on the glans skin around the meatus and some further redness down the glans towards the coronal sulcus. From some of the pictures I’ve seen of LS from individuals on this forum, I feel I’ve got it quite good. No white scarring at all as of yet. My next step to take is probably going to be circumcision, if Professor Bunker advises. He may advise I continue with the steroid, or he may suggest I try an alternate steroid. I’m calling on all previous LS sufferers that have had circumcision to cure their LS. Did it clear all symptoms? How long did it take for your symptoms to actually clear? Can you have sex etc without any flare ups? Even if you had a bad experience and the circumcision didn’t clear your LS, please comment and let me know. Thank you.

I had a peeling with CO2 laser over a spot of lichen on glans and frenulum. It resolve partially but it continues working. I will update you later if it works completely.

Hi, just noticed your post here... did you have any further laser treatment for your LS. I've been looking into laser also, so just wondered if you had any further success... my LS is where foreskin attaches below the glans.

My wife has had LS for 12yrs and I am not sure if men have a different form. I don't think its spread as STD which of course its not but its emotional for her and she has a dermatologist and a surgeon who tried to remove some with little success. If women and men are similar in the LS experience I assume it can (circumcision) painful! I will also ask her if she has been prescribed the dermal cream as yours! Good luck!

I had conditions similar to your but I was diagnosed with Lichen Planus and circumcision has not been recommended so far. Did you go ahead with circumcision and did the redness disappear ?

My personal experience was needing circumcision due to phimosis and LS, took about 6 months after for LS to resolve. Appearance seemed to linger about a year, even after dermatologist suggested stopping steroid cream but now looking more normal.

I have LS but still using steroid cream for past 18 months - I have scarring and discoloration on head, but sexual health clinic and dermatologist both said I don't need circumcision, however still getting bouts of soreness. Did you have a full "Circ" and lose frenulum.? Are you happy with everything - does LS appear to be cured.?

I had a full circumcision, due to phimosis likely caused by trauma and LS perhaps (I play a sport where I sometimes get hit in that area). Frenulum is mostly gone, unfortunately, that was a sad outcome but LS has fully resolved. I’m otherwise very happy with my new look and sensations.

That's great news and thanks for reply. Do you have any autoimmune conditions - the Dermo advised that is what usually causes LS. How long was your "Circ" recovery time. Some guys appear to have sexual probs after the opp - did you have any probs. Just trying to get confidence to go ahead I guess... thanks.

No autoimmune condition, I was told it was related to the phimosis keeping urine in constant contact with the glans. Recovery was difficult in the first 2-3 weeks or so, night time erections were extremely painful. Extreme heightened sensitivity on the glans took a while for me to get used to and this improved after a couple months. I wasn’t really fully prepared for what happened, which is why I was thankful for this site. Despite a few weeks of difficulty, I’m very happy with the end result (appearance and function).

Very sorry to hear that news Mac - I take it you already had LS and it's returned afer undergoing the circ. If so was it a "full circumcision"..? My Dermo has recommended I get circ'd.... he said it would be an instant cure for LS. He said there would be no difference after being circ'd - sexual function included. At present I keep f/skin back 24/7... no problem for me and get no probs from the LS. I would check to see if a full circumcision has been done - read up on full circumcision as possibly not all the LS was eliminated.
