Circumcision questions. Post op

I was circumcised 8 days ago I’m concerned as 1 stitch has burst due to morning erection. Is this a cause for concern or should I not worry. Anyone that this has happened to or had done recently is love to chat with as I have a few questions. I’m in the U.K. and speaking with doctors is a nightmare just now. So someone with experience that’s had this done and could answer some questions I would be really great full.

Hi, I am 8 days post op also. Nothing like this has happened to me, but I was advised that if a stitch were to burst to get it checked by my gp, regardless, just for precautionary purposes. Some other, more knowledgeable users may be able to help but I think you’re better off going to the doctors for some peace of mind.

How is yours coming along? Have you been showering or bathing?

I bathed in warm water with a few tablespoons of salt so it can clean the would easier without touching it (you know how sensitive it can be) for the first 6 days and then yesterday I showered for the first time. It was difficult to shower as the water hitting the wound was a little painful (again, sensitivity.) Generally I would say it’s coming along okay. My swelling around the incision has gone down a lot but I’m still in a little bit of pain.

How’s yours going, aside from the stitch?

I find showering fine to be honest. But I can’t touch it to clean as it’s painful around the stitching. I’ve seen a pic and spoke to someone who had 1 stitch come out on day 10 and it looks identical to mine which is a relief. I’ve not done the salt bath yet. Wasn’t sure what salt to use or how much. I’ll do that later today I think. Any advice on the bath and salt to use etc.

Yes, I’d recommend taking a salt water bath as it helps cleaning and reduces risk for infections. Keep the water WARM. Not too hot.

Use just your normal food-grade sea salt for the bath. I used around 5-6 tablespoons.

Let it soak in the water, don’t touch it. It’s going to sting for a small while but that’s normal since the salt is getting to it and basically helping it heal.

That’s good to hear about the stitch, but just keep a close eye on it, which I’m sure you’re already doing.

Thanks. Just normal sea salt for food? I was reading people used Epsom salt? Gonna go get some just not sure what’s best.

We don't normally use Epsom salt similar way than some in US do. Table salt is enough. 0,5-1 tea spoon to 0,5 l boiled water. I couldn't find any scientific article about Epsom with open wound.

Homemade saline emulates normal Natrium persentage in blood. It can irritate less than plain boiled water. Saline solution has 0,9% sodium chloride (Na).

I’m in the uk. They other guy I’ve been messaging used Epsom salt and had a bath in it and also in normal salt. Just unsure which is best and how much to use in a bath?

As long as you have an open wound on your penis it's not recommended to use bath tub. Just use tea mug etc. ;)

Okay thanks

in reply to Daniel121

Don’t use Epsom salts, it is chemically different to regular salt and has no medical benefit. Also you don’t need to sit in a bath of salt, just dip into a cup of salty water to have same effect. The main benefit is to clean the wound so if there’s no sign of infection you don’t need to use salt water at all, it’ll heal OK without.

A broken stitch, or one that comes out early is nothing to worry about as the would will still continue to heal.

You will also find much useful supplementary advice in the medically approved Post-Op Care booklet at: circinfo.com/post-op_care/c...

I have criticised this booklets provider at reddit to ask again about "Epsom salt to open wound", but he never answered to me. That medically approved doctor could have got his license 1970s in US. It's not ok to me ask just one person like that. Even doctors need further education. I need scientific evidence or at least evidence-based practice from this millenium. I couldn't find any.

I won’t be removing any stitches myself unless advised by my gp. But I’ve now spoke to a few people who have had this done over the last few years. All have said the bathed their penis in normal warm salt water. Twice daily. So I’ll be doing that.

By day 8 your wound has likely closed so dropping a single stitch shouldn’t be anything to worry about as long as it doesn’t all come apart and start gaping etc.

No concern. I had a few popped out early too and rushed to A&E. Doctor said to let it close up by secondary healing as wouldn’t replace the sutures. Result: less scarring than the area with sutures still intact!

HeyI’m in the Uk and had a circumcision back in April last year. I had a stitch pop open and it has healed up by secondary healing fine. The gape in the wound I used some medical grade honey with some gauze over. It really really helped a lot. Hows recovery going. I had really really bad swelling which took about 6-8 months to go down. Inbox me if you want a link to some honey

Today is day 9. It actually seems a lot better today than yesterday. Bathed it in salt water twice yesterday and it’s made a hell of a difference. So will be doing that daily. Hardly any pain this morning with the standard erection which is great. Curious on time scale for the stitches to dissolve I’ve been told different times and others pulling out themselves. Nhs said 10-14 days. How was yours?

I had a few left after about 18 days so my wife took them out. What method of circumcision did you have.

I don’t actually know. Was a full circumcision. The frenulum is still there I think. Then stitched right round and up to the hole.

Well i had three stitches go during my first week due to powers outside of my control, thought he contracted measels at first. But a lot of colourful words and pointing of the finger did the trick, he went into hiding during nocturnal hours after that for the remaining days.Just let him know who is boss man sir.
