Too low cut circumcision revision complications

I'm a 31-year-old who after long term balanoposthitis and phimosis (grade 1) went through a circumcision back in May that was unsatisfactory. Therefore, I went through with a circumcision revision about two months ago (back on 12 November). Now I have several problems: (1) the scar is awfully close to the corona (extremely low cut), (2) the scar has hardened, (3) there is a lymphangitis along the scar on the left side, (4) there is some fibrotic lumps on the right side along the scar, and (5) there is a left-over skin flap along the scar left of the frenulum.

Have any of you seen these problems before? Should I do something about it, or will it get better on its own over time?

Multiply surgeries are more likely to cause issues than single surgeries. I don’t know what was wrong with your first circumcision but it might be worthwhile giving the revision some time before you even think of another op. As you have demonstrated, results cannot be guaranteed in the surgery world. Take care.

Thanks for the response. During the first circumcision the surgeon left way too much foreskin which led to swelling and paraphimosis for quite some time. Maybe that damaged the skin for the circumcision revision somehow. I’d like to show pictures here on the site by the way. How do I do that?

Really sorry for what you must be going through. I’m not sure if you’re allowed to post pictures.

You need more healing time. After my circumcision, the scar line on my member ribbed out making it look Ike i had a dark cock ring underneath the skin. I was worried too and asked my Dr. he told me to give it time at 51 it takes a longer to fully heal than guys in their 20s / 30s. My procedure was in May of 2020. So I allowed time to heal and now the scar line is much smoother and blends well where the tissue was removed. I do wish my cut would be tighter, but at 51, I’m not having any more incisions to my soldier. And when I’m erect it looks really good. So my friend, give it time. Hope it works out for you

Thanks man. Yes, that is still my hope for sure – that time will make at least most of my issues go away. Do you happen to know how one sends pictures here? I’d like to show rather than just describe my situation.

in reply to AlanShore

Neither pictures nor links to pictures are allowed.

Swelling after circumcision is so common as to be universal. Did you have many events of paraphimosis needing emergency treatment? When the swelling disappeared did you still get events of paraphimosis needing emergency treatment?

I've seen many other posts here where people show pictures though. How come that's not allowed? Makes it so much easier to understand a persons problems.

I've never had emergency treatment for paraphimosis. After the first circumcision the surgeon left way too much (especially inner) foreskin which ballooned and stayed swollen for several months. When that calmed down there was still a ugly band of left over skin which looked awful and felt worse (put pressure around the shaft close to the corona). That's why I went through with the circumcision revision, but ofcourse that surgeon removed way to much inner forskin instead...

in reply to AlanShore

Picture have not been allowed for many months now and links to pics for the last couple of months. It might be a good idea for you to read the posting guidelines.

If you have not needed emergency treatment then it is probably because you have not had paraphimosis. A swollen foreskin is not the same as either phimosis or paraphimosis. nhs.uk/conditions/phimosis/

It sounds as though you just did not like the cosmetic result following the resolution of the swelling nor the result of the revision.

Do you have a loss of function with your penis?

AlanShore in reply to

Well you seem to be misunderstanding me. This would have been so much easier if one was allowed to post pictures. The hardened scar and the lymphangitis is clearly causing functional problems as it makes my glans balloon like never before during erections and seem to have caused a reduction in size aswell.

Will the ban on pictures be lifted in the future?

in reply to AlanShore

There will be no lifting of the ban on posting pictures.

I am trying to understand your situation from your postings. If living with the problems you feel you have with your penis is so bad then you should be seeking medical help. I guess that the only other thing I can add is that any surgery cannot always produce the ideal result. I know that from my own experience.

I had my circumcision 1 month ago. Doctor left a lot of foreskin(which i like, because I no longer have phimosis and my foreskin is still there) so i had lot of swelling and it looked like paraphimosis! I dont think it was! I cant think of having a circ for phimosis that will not get rid of phimosis! Now my foreskin is covering a lot of the glans and the swelling is going down day by day but the stiches dissolve slow! Maybe the revision was not needed! Anyway, hope you get well soon!

Just sending well wishes your way, man. Sorry you had to go through multiple procedures. Hope to hear good updates from you in the near future.

I'm currently facing a similar predicament. After my first circumcision was all healed up, I could not retract my glans fully at all due to swollen scar tissue. So had to do a revision which cut far more inner skin which now give a webbed penis issue and hold back my penis at the base of the shaft causing less length overall. Also have a scarline that is like a tight rubber and during sex. Bio oil and betnovate steroid cream is helping with this issue though.Take it one day at a time my friend, it will get better with time. I don't think any further surgery will help matters. Goodluck brother.

Thank you for the reply brother. It sound more like they removed too much of your outer skin though? Or is the scar line very close to your glans aswell?

How long ago did you go through with your last circumcision and how are happy with it now?

As pictures are not allowed, can you tell us how much inner skin was left between the scar and the corona of the glans? Obviously I hope that it resolves itself but even 1/2 a cm allows a further tidy up.

AlanShore profile image
AlanShore in reply to 8thfloorben

The scar isn't completely symmetrical. On the highest places there's about half a centimeter I would say. However, on the left side I can't even see any inner foreskin, he seems to have removed it all plus some of the corona sulcus (the groove between the corona and inner foreskin)...

As to make things more clear I'll post my case on the community "healthunlocked.com/sensitiv... where one can send pictures. I'll do it later today or tomorrow I think.

This sounds like a nightmare for you all. I really feel for you. This is why I’m determined not to be circumcised unless absolutely every other option has been tried and no further options are available. What has your doctors said about it now? Will it settle down with time since you are only 2 months past your last surgery? Since you are cut so low now is it possible to repair it again or will you need to see a plastic surgeon?

Yeah it's been really awful. I don't actually regret the decision to be circumcised per se though. In fact I wish I did it much sooner, before my balanoposthitis and phimosis got way worse. However, my biggest regret by far was not picking the right surgeon. If you decide to go through with a circumcision I would pick a surgeon that's demonstrably great at circumcisions specifically. From what I've seen when searching the web one such surgeon seems to be Dr. Eid (see urologicalcare.com/). If I could do it again, I would rather pay 100 000 dollars (although it of course never costs that much) and travel around the globe, than take my chances with a surgeon that can't prove (through pictures AND patient satisfaction reviews) that he's great. Also I would make sure to get a high cut. Then if you where to have any issues you would have a way better chance to fix them later.

When I emailed Dr. Eid after my last circumcision he said exactly that -- that it would be very difficult to revise again because of the extremely low cut. Most doctors seem to agree that I need to wait for at least 6 months though to be able to make a final evaluation of my situation. Therefore, my hope at this stage is that the scars will smooth out in a way that makes this at least good enough for me not to think about it so much.

I had a revision and the surgeon I saw said I Definately needed one. However, he would not do it until 6 months had elapsed for the previous one to settle (quite rightly, of course). It HAD settled but my problem was too much skin left. I'd suggest seeing other surgeons for an opinion, usually the consultation is very cheap?

Did the first at the beginning of last September, then the revision in mid October. Scarline is less than an inch away from the corona.Currently I'm fully healed, still some sensitivity for the inner layer of skin. The only issue I have is that the frenelum is a bit sensitive too and the Scarline is very tight which puts a lot of pressure on the head when erect. I've only been using bio oil and cream like 1 month now and noticed improvement. As I said before, with proper maintenance I think I should be back to normal in a few months maybe back to my normal length. Overall I'm happy with my procedure, wifey loves the look and feel especially the added girth, not sure how that happened. I'm excited to have sex without the small cuts or torn frenulum everytime which required a few days to heal before I can go again. I'm in my early thirties and regretting that I did not do sooner, I do miss the the pleasure of my foreskin but overall no regrets.

All I can say now is: time is healer. If the scar line is like a tight rubber band it will loosen within next six months.
