So I had upper eyelid surgery some years ago, almost a circ of the eyelid if you will. The doctor showed many patients’ pics of before and after so I would know what to expect. He gave specific post-op instructions, follow up schedule, possible outcomes, possible complications ( 1 in 40,000 weren’t able to close their eyes ever again)
I know there are 5-6 main methods of circ and no two penises are alike and healing is different for everyone. But don’t thymes show before and after, different methods, different styles??

If circumcisions are for medical reasons then the aim is to get rid of the problem in the best way. They.are not cosmetic procedures. When I had a tumour removed from my kidney I was not given appearance options!! I was, however, given post-op instructions and all reputable surgeons should do that.

Even if circumcision is for medical reasons surly you have a right to get the style you request if possible with your condition rather than just getting what the surgeon gives you or are they inferior surgeons that can only do it one way. Why should we not get what we want because it’s for medical reasons? People have different reasons for requesting different styles surly if it is possible it it’s not going to make a difference to the surgeon to give the patient what they are looking for.

That is not what surgery for penis health problems is about. In the UK, if you want that, then you would have to pay for your circumcision as a private procedure. Most surgeons have their own ways of doing circumcisions but should take into account the needs for erections etc.

If the procedure is for medical reasons the chances are the patient doesn’t want this surgery anyway but has no much choice they are worried enough about the surgery without having to worry about the outcome. This in my opinion is not a cosmetic procedure but surely we could expect the cosmetic result you want since the surgery is being done anyway.

The outcome was to get rid of my problems and they did that.

I had a surgery this year for a hernia and the surgeon gave me the best possible cosmetic results he could do (which I must say was excellent) so why would they not do this for a penis. I mean if the patient was having sensation issues before the circumcision then surely they wouldn’t remove the frenulum and carry out a low circumcision when if it was possible due to the condition to do a high cut to preserve the sensitive areas.

A good circumcision would take into account patient given information. But - it is not like going to a hairdresser, looking at pictures and saying that I want to look like that one! Of course, circumcisions also have possible side effects and unintended consequences.
Your doctor spent 5 minutes talking with you? That is 4 minutes more than mine did before I got my surgery done. And he's spoken to me 30 seconds since. I don't even want to deal with that guy anymore. Most info I've been able to get online without having to deal with his unprofessionalism.
NY, USA. And yes, I made a formal complaint to the medical board. I think the actual surgery went okay, especially compared with the responses on the site. But his mannerisms are horrid.
I did my own research and discovered all I could want to know beforehand and without much effort.My urologist told me that when there's an option, he performs it one way only to reduce the risks of complications with erections. I decided I can trust him based on good online reviews, his manner and the fact that he performs the operation weekly. It was done at a private hospital, very conveniently located from where I live. He also insist on doing it under general anaesthesia which I regarded as a good sign.
If I felt like having it done using a different style I only had to go to another urologist (without the guarantee that it might be a better surgeon).
His consulting room receptionists answered many of my questions regarding the preparation and hospitalisation per email. I cannot believe how smoothly everything went and I'm busy recovering very well on day 10 now.
On my visit to the urologist, he had me drop my drawers. He tried to pull back the foreskin. He asked me if I wanted steroid cream or circumcision. I told him I wanted to be circumcised. He said he could do that. I asked if he used the Gomco Clamp as I wanted it to at least be a nice circular cut. He said he didn't use that for adults and said his freehand method was just as good. He did a good job.
Wow right then and there? Glad it’s straight. I see some jagged ones. My urologist (happened to be Jewish) asked once if I wanted any cosmetic work I.e. circ while he was doing my surgery for bladder neck constriction. I said no thanks he said ok I don’t see any reason to but while you are under general anesthesia. .z
I know what you mean, it’s surprising how many guys don’t know what style cut they have post surgery so come to forums like these to find out or get opinions.
I’m personally way too particular and would ask or tell the surgeon beforehand, I also agree on the picture thing, as it is such a personal surgery example photos from procedures the surgery has done in the past would be a nice way of getting an idea of what to expect.

I wasn't shown any pictures. Brief aftercare instruction and what to expect. Came across that it wasn't that bad. But tbh it took me a good 2 half weeks after to start feeling at ease with it took 4 weeks to stop thinking about it all the time. Tbh me personally. Worst bit was taking dressing off in the bath and seeing it for the first time. I dressed mine for 2 half weeks just so I didnt have to see it a lot until it was noticeabley healing. Sorry just being honest and telling you how it was for me.
My surgeon is one of the most dismissive, unhelpful, and inconsiderate doctors I've ever met--and that's putting it nicely. I already lost respect for doctors since I was younger but this one is the worst. Other than telling me"no sex or masturbation for 4 weeks," and telling me I can take over-the-counter pain relievers if I'm in pain, he didn't give me any in-depth instructions or information about circumcision, let alone pictures of what to expect.
I can't speak for other folks here but I definitely have to rely on the internet for information because he has been totally useless in answering any questions I have. After my operation, I had a load of questions and he answered none of them whatsoever. I don't even bother dealing with him anymore. I will find another urologist for a follow-up in the next couple of months.
But at this point, I'm safer just not dealing with any medical doctors or staff because I seem to come across the most disrespectful people in the profession. So far, I seem to be healing okay, so I am hoping he is a much better surgeon than he is someone to talk to.
Had I known he was this way from the getgo, I would have gotten the procedure done by someone else. If other guys have had my experience, I can see why they too have to go to online articles and forums for support and information.
I hear you but I had no real questions until after the procedure was done. It's not like I knew what to ask beyond the basic "how long will I be in pain" and "is it done under anesthesia" stuff. There are a lot of nuances about the procedure and recovery that only come to light once you're recovering. The fact this website is replete with many guys asking questions to strangers online shows that all of us are in the same boat. It's the doctor's job to fully inform the patient what they are getting into; many of us didn't get the full, comprehensive details upfront as you did. And I say all of this as someone who does personal research. Most of what I've learned is through my own recovery and these forums.
Hi I’ve not been circumcised yet I’m still trying cream for my reoccurring balanitis. This website is good for information but I must say that it’s making me more nervous. I know this site is for problems but it would be nice to hear from people who went through the surgery with no problems. Your doctor was wrong by not giving you enough information prior to the surgery. When you sign the consent form it’s supposed to be informed consent. Are you happy now that you have been circumcised?
I'm definitely happy I'm circumcised. I've wanted to be for my entire life. I have a mixture of religious, cosmetic, and health reasons why.
Firstly, I'm a Bible believer and circumcision was something God instituted in the Old Testament for males to do. I've always viewed it as something I ought to get done (though it is not at all mandated in the New Testament). Just a personal choice on my part.
Secondly, I've always been a bit self-conscious about being uncut. I think mainly because in USA it is more common for guys to be cut (though I realize these days the rates are not as high as before).
Interestingly, I have had many, many girlfriends, a wife, and will be remarried soon, and not one woman has ever had an issue with my foreskin. But for me, Idk why but I just wanted to be circumcised still even though no woman I know has ever complained. (But if you go online, you'll see a lot of women say they prefer the cut look).
What pushed me over the edge is that my balanitis got annoying. Over-the-counter Clomitrazole (very cheap on Amazon) or hydrocortisone butyrate (prescription only) was enough to treat my issue but it never cured it. This year, I've had several outbreaks of balanitis--it looks way worse than it really is, but I just got annoyed with the constant need to apply cream. I already have to go through a lot of rituals to keep my hair, skin, etc healthy and this was one additional thing for me. I would wash my hands before and after peeing, I would thoroughly wash underneath my foreskin; constantly change underwear throughout the day. Nothing helped no matter how hygienic I was. It would go away and come back without warning.
When I found out that insurance can cover circumcision due to balanitis, that was enough reason for me to get it done.
I am happy I got it done. I just didn't realize the recovery is so lengthy and I was unfortunate to have an awful doctor; he seems like a decent surgeon but he is a crappy human being when it comes to giving you info or answering questions.
I work out a lot--my whole life--so not being able to hit the weights for at least 4 weeks after surgery is annoying. This bugs me more than no sex for 4 weeks, LOL. And my head is rather sensitive; but it's not as bad as last week or the week before. It is definitely healing.
I am happy I am cut now but I just wish I had a surgeon be more explicative in what to expect during recovery.
Hi I’m happy for you. I’m so glad to hear that you made the choice to be circumcised rather than being circumcised as a child without your consent. I have nothing against people who want to be circumcised it’s your choice but I’m dead against routine infant circumcision. I think that the person should decide for them self. As you said circumcision is more common in America. Here in Scotland it’s quite rare to see a circumcised penis. I think what is worst for me is I don’t want to be circumcised but I may not have a choice if I can’t get rid of the reoccurring balanitis.
Yea. On top of it, I think I may have given my Girl HPV. HPV rates are apparently higher amongst uncut guys from what I've heard. I have sometimes wondered if there is a HPV and balanitis correlation. Some articles online insinuate it's a possibility.
And I didn't know circumcision is uncommon where you are. From all the porn that exists, I seriously thought I was the only uncut dude there was, Lol. I only discovered lately that a bunch of men in my family are uncut. And from Googling, you can see there are same famous celebs who are uncut also (but this I've known for a long time).
My doctor told me that my balanitis is due to thrush caused by type 2 diabetes. I’m not sure about porn but in swimming pool changing rooms gyms toilets etc any time I had a sneaky glance most were uncircumcised it’s not very often you see a circumcised one.
That's interesting. If my insurance didn't cover the procedure, I would have just lived with it. Made it 3+ decades in life just fine. But since it was free, I went for it.
Same here man, I’ve already asked a ton of questions and I haven’t even booked the circumcision. That should really be the case with any surgery; your doctor is making money off of you so it’s part of their job to be able to answer everything you need to know

I can imagine it is hard after having negative experiences in the past but there are some amazing doctors out there that do care and do their job well. I hope you get the answers you need and the support from here and your next urologist!
