I just came from a consultation for my circumcision. Why do doctors always ask if they retract our foreskin for us when doing an exam? Just wondering.

Maybe to confirm it can be pulled back easily after retracted? Other wise will get a paraphimosis
Not sure if he did not ask your permission or after if you were considering circumcision ( consultation) . It was part of my medical exam until after circumcision. Perhaps if considering, he was checking to see if frenulum needs removal. Or as below, retracting foreskin to check not only for phimosis/paraphimosis, but any other changes-moles, yeast etc. Not sure I fully understood, but normal to retract in medical exam for someone uncircumcised.
Whenever my doctor did it, it was to see how easily it retracted, if it was too tight, or if the frenulum pulled downward on the head too hard. I think he also wanted to make sure it was being cleaned properly.
They always tell you what they are going to do and make you do so that you are not surprised and taken aback when they do it. It’s just the way they do it.
My surgeon never touched or examine thoroughly before my operation. I had a tight frenulum and breve and a short foreskin. He removed the foreskin but kept the frenulum intact! Now I’m circumcised but still the frenulum breves!
I've been exposed to a lot of new insights from this site,..., I have been seeing a lot in sites I go to for info that there are multiple levels of tight foreskin situations so the Doctor might want to see just HOW tight you are and then plan his procedure on what level of tightness you present with.
