I have a prostate that is enlarged by approximately three times. I am 72 so I suspect that is not uncommon. However, it is growing into my bladder and causing me to retain an average of 11 to 12 ounces of urine. I am self-catherizing daily to get that fluid out of my bladder. Anyway, I am having laser surgery on the prostate in November, whereby my urologist will bring the size down to its original and he said at that point it will not grow back. I have ED and was wondering if there is a possibility that the prostate growing into the bladder and causing all that retention could potentially be negatively impacting my ability to have an erection? Thanks for any thoughts around this subject. I so appreciate having these forums.

Thanks. I knew that. I was wondering if my current prostate issues could be having a negative affect on my ability to have an erection? Any thoughts on that? Thanks,
One of the important nerves for getting an erection passes very close to the prostate. An enlarged prostate may adversely affect the nerve. There is also a possibility that during any procedure on the prostate this nerve may be damaged.
Be sure to discuss your problem with the urologist before any treatment is given, but incidental damage there may be inevitable whilst curing the much more important prostate problem. Whilst no man wants to be unable to get an erection, at your age it shouldn't be too much of a real problem.
