I'm 19 and it's been 5/6 days I had a circumcision surgery and, I know they're normal and stuff but, I can't stand those disturbing nights when it gets erect and all I can think is about the stiches ripping my skin off and I having to go to the hospital and doing it all over again. So, does anyone know any thing I could take to go limp?

Does anyone know any medicine to avoid night erections?
Best thing to do would be to leave them alone it will get better and you shouldn’t suffer from painful erections around the 1-2 week mark. Empty your bladder out at 4:00am don’t drink straight before bed allow time from your last drink and sleep. Get hold of some gel packs put them in the freezer I found these helpful to stop full blown erections occurring. Do be careful applying an ice pack to the penis you should use like a towel around it so you are not directly putting it on the penis. Erections are good 1 it shows blood is getting there 2 they help your skin stretch which is good at a early stage after circumcision as the skin will need to stretch.
Well stated. That area does need to stretch. Nocturnal erections after circumcision are rough. We here have all been there. Usually sutures are strong enough to hold. Surgeons, urologists are are of this. I don’t believe they use any meds now, to prevent nocturnal erections as those had side effects. I did not use any meds. Keep us updated if you choose-we are here to offer our support and experiences. They may differ a bit depending on Dr, what was used to close wound. Best of luck. It will get better, the penis is very vascular and usual heals well-speedy recovery on a personal and uncomfortable surgery
Thank you, u've been really helpful!
Years ago, I know amyl nitrate (poppers) were used. I don’t think being used anymore after circumcision. I think again, as stated, I was not given any medications,Nocturnal erections were difficult and uncomfortable. As you Dr. I at least had to deal with them until healing to a point they were not uncomfortable, and it seems others on here have had to deal with them as well. My sutures were strong enough to resist breaking apart beforehand, if sutured yours I hope will be fine. Eventually this will be over, you will be healed and I hope glad you finally were circumcised for your problem-quick healing and hoping you will be able to at sometime support others going through adult circumcision-regards
Hi, some very good advice above from London 432 if you can sleep on your side with your knees bent forward this usually helps with reducing them. also some guys suggest using decongestant tablets like Sudafed they have said it works well.
Check with Dr. See what he suggests. I weathered “the storm “-lying on side or whatever position is a good thought. If not cold I suggest after my circumcision, sleeping without shorts for a bit and just a light sheet or covering if possible allowing air to dry the incision-it’s just what I did
Yes I found sleeping on my side with my knees bent forward helped reduce and get rid of the erections after my circumcision some years ago. and if you empty your bladder and don't drink too much before bed. I also find sleeping in the nip much better.
Very good advice. Needing to urinate with an erection is almost impossible. We all can lend support and our experiences no matter how long ago to help someone
I’ve read either on this forum or elsewhere that Sudafed decongestant helps avoid overnight erections. Don’t know if it’s true
I don’t know either. So for me I did not take, nor would advise on meds. A Dr needs to do that. He/She also would be aware if beneficial and usually know patients history. I have taken aspirin as an example but not for pain, but as my Dr prescribed to thin blood. She recently told me to stop it. Just trying to put personal perspective on meds thank you.
Please do not take Sudafed ( pseudoephedrine) without Dr confirmation. All meds have side effects. Sometimes a med might be used for its side effects. I am not Dr, I would not suggest any meds and defer to a Dr. I certainly did not enjoy nocturnal erections but that was part of my healing, and is easier to deal with after sutures out and every day improving-but some other suggestions are just that-how we dealt with many issues post circumcision-good luck, hope you can sleep, I also did not use ice.
It’s true that all meds have potential side effects and it’s always worth reading the PIL. However in UK I believe Sudafed is available over the counter as a common decongestant so wouldn’t need doctor’s approval
It’s available here as well, but so is aspirin which I have been told only use baby as it can cause gastric bleeding and I have been there-gastric ulcer. I just personally will not recommend meds here and defer to Dr. I think we can respectfully agree or disagree. You may be right, but Dr, for me thank you, if Dr agrees, that med can help many
We all had them and during the first week they are very painful. You just have to get through the first week or so. Have a pack of frozen peas ready so that when the nocturnal erections wake you up you are ready to put some cold ice pack to make it go away!
Another good idea, I did not ice. I tend to lean, with respect against ice. It is just my opinion the area needs blood to heal. I just think blood might shrink the blood vessels decreasing blood flow. However I am not a Dr. If they suggest, I can see why it might work for nocturnal erections which were very tough after my circumcision
