Bladder pain

I have suffered on and off with bladder pain and pain when peeing. Coincidentally when I started on the mini pill. Does anyone have experience of this side effect of the mini pill?

Have done some research and think it could be painful bladder syndrome. Maybe not connected to the pill at all possibly??

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Take a urine specimin to the Dr's when you have the pain as it needs testing for infection as your symptoms sounds like it may be Uniary Tract Infection which needs treating. Hormones can cause UTIs.

Please see your Dr

Thank you for your reply. Every time I get the pain they test my urine but it’s always been fine. So I’m pretty sure it’s not a UTI. Feels like inflammation of bladder /urethra but aside from that I’m clueless.

I kept having “UTI” symptoms with no bacteria showing up in my urine. I did have some blood. I ended up being diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. Any acidic foods/ drinks, or stress can cause a flare. It is very painful when not under control. I saw a specialist for this in the US…. Urogynecologist. I pray you get some relief soon. Drink lots of water!

Thank you so much for this FlutE. I’m still getting symptoms but dread the doctor as I’m not sure how to explain it to them. Your message will spur me on!

I’m in the same boat! I have an ultrasound booked for next week as a diagnosis for bladder pain syndrome is a process of elimination, go to your GP and tell them how much pain you’re in and they will start doing tests to eliminate other things. I’ve read that pelvic floor physiotherapy is very helpful too so maybe look into this.

weirdly it’s not very painful all the time unless it flares up. But it’s in the background most of the time. Obviously something is not right. I will get checked again.

IC is also known as bladder pain syndrome (I had actually forgot that!). I had a series on tests done (not comfortable but necessary to get out of pain). He also placed medicine in my bladder once a week for 3 weeks. I adjusted my diet after that and have kept it a bay since… that was 2019! He said most women have the medicine redone once a yr. Go for low acid diet and then slowly introduce an acid food one at a time to find your triggers. Water is super important and empty your bladder every 2 hours (don’t let it sit there burning the lining of your bladder).

My GP has said I probably have Bladder Pain Syndrome after 3 rounds of antibiotics for UTI, no improvement and urine samples coming back negative. They’ve now given me amitryptaline but I’m really not happy taking it. I have an appointment with a pelvic floor physiotherapist in a couple of weeks & keeping the pain at bay with Naproxen & paracetamol for now. What was the treatment in your bladder & did you get this through your GP?

Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is what my urogynecologist placed in the bladder by way of a catheter… once a week for 3 weeks.

Thanks for the info, @FluteE, would you say you’re now totally pain free & living a normal life? I’m still researching the condition & worried that it’ll always be like this (pretty limiting right now)

Good advice thank you. Sorry to hear you’ve had to go through all that but sounds like things are under control. Yes still working out my food/drink triggers, alcohol for definite!

It’s called an inflamed bladder!

After I had many tests and scans all coming back clear I now have mine under control with no more pain!

Things that helped me -

1/ D- mannose dissolvable tablets everyday then down to 3 times a week (Holland &barrett)

2/ cranberry tablets

3/ drinks lots and lots!!! and do the Celtic salt method (google it)

4/limit alcohol

5/avoid triggers (mine were citrus foods/drinks/coffee)

6/don’t hold your pee!! Pee regular!

Hope this helps! 😊
