has anyone experienced bladder problems after total hysterectomy. I am getting frequent urine infections and passing blood - pink streaks in urine and also urge incontinence is a problem. I would appreciate any experience you have regarding these issues.
Kind Regards

HI Lara🙂 For peace of mind…it’s probably a good idea to see your GP
‘While rare (it occurs at a rate of 0.2%), another possible cause of bleeding after hysterectomy could involve the ureter—a structure that plays a crucial role in transporting urine from the kidneys to the bladder—accidentally being severed by doctors during your procedure, which would not only lead to blood in your urine, but it can also cause urine to go back to the kidney, says Dr. Gordon. If you’re having problems with urination, particularly if it’s accompanied by fever and chills, see your doctor.’
I had my total hysterectomy in September 2019 to cure early cancer of womb!! No other treatment required but I’ve developed several health problems since then the operation. My bowel function has also changed. My urge incontinence is also quite bad but luckily I’ve been at home when I’ve had to change clothes!!!’ In last 3 months I’ve started to experience utis. It may be something I have to live with. For my other health issues I’ve been referred to a menopause specialist with a waiting list of 1 year. My IBS has also flared up and my gallstones are giving me grief but not bad enough for an operation. I’m not in best place at moment but I know there are alot worse off. My gp is good and was one who referred me - she actually joined all the dots - oestrogen depletion.
After my hysterectomy I developed a bowel prolapse which I had quite a few uti’s. I’ve since had it repaired. Ask Dr to check. Not easy for us is it, cute one problem then develop more 😭x
Lara, you might need estrogen because once you have a hysterectomy, you will start having symptoms of menopause. One symptom of menopause is vaginal atrophy. The vagina and urethra need estrogen to stay healthy. Some women get vaginal atrophy and it can show up with lots of UTIs. I have this problem myself and had to start taking vaginal estrogen cream. Ask your doctor about getting some localized estrogen for your vagina or you could try estrogen systemically by using a patch on your skin. It will likely help with the UTIs and frequent urination. If you have questions about it, reach out to me.
I second what Sungirl has to say, Lara. I am now 54 and 7 years post TAH/BSO. Your symptoms most definitely suggest Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause - formerly known as vaginal atrophy. Your GP can and should be able to start you on vaginal estrogen at least before you attend the menopause clinic. It's very easy to use and will ease your discomfort no end. Please do book an appointment to see them.
