I'm a college grad and started a new job. On my second week to school i was broadsided and totaled my car. I suffered a concussion and in the following 2 weeks would pass out and vomit due to the extreme anxious and sick feeling in my stomach. I am still struggling and need coping skills. My doctor has put me on an antidepressant but i still feel defeated and don't want to go into my school to teach. I need help and coping skills.
I fear letting my parents and my fiance down everyday.
I can really relate. I'm a retired teacher, and I remember how nervous I was on my first job. I can see that your accident and it's consequences add even more pressure. But, honestly you have a lot on your plate, and beating yourself up or worrying about others right now is not useful. You need to focus on your own needs. Are you well enough to return to work? My experience teaching taught me that if I'm not up to it, the students will take advantage - they have some kind of radar. Many new teachers don't last more than two years so your ability and health are super important. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Is there any possibility you can let this current job go, and start fresh next fall? I'm glad you found this space to share, we want the best for you. 🥰
Tried to go back today and passed out. I'm stuck in my own head. I don't want to let my parents down after they paid for my university schooling. I'm sick and hate myself.
You are not letting your parents down. You have been in an accident, and it takes time to recover, and concussion can bring unwanted side effects if you push yourself too hard. Your family should understand.
You have to think of your health, both Physical and Mental, before you go back to teaching. Have you seen a Doctor? If not, please do so as I feel you may need counseling and you may not actually be safe on the roads yet after totalling your car and with a Concussion, Treat your self gently and see if you can be released from your contract for this year. Optimisrus is right, kids can be like a predator, one sign of weakness and they will become uncontrollable.
