Your admin elves have been busy working behind the scenes. Weβre now into the time of year when itβs tricky for some of us to get out for a run or to stick to any kind of routine. Whether youβre a fan of Christmas or not, there seems to be a growing list of tasks to do during December and sometimes our running can lose a bit of momentum.
So, we have created a fun festive challenge to keep things ticking over and hopefully bring a smile or two along the way π
* The Challenge runs from 4th to 31st December and a challenge week is Wednesday to Tuesday.
* A new post and a new challenge will go out every Wednesday.
* There are three challenges for each week. You can do one, two or all three!
* Each challenge carries points. Once you complete each week, add up your own points, let us know and weβll add them to the attached spreadsheet. At the end of the Challenge weβll publish the top three scorers!
* If you canβt run at the minute then you can walk.
* You can incorporate the challenges on any run/walk distance.
* If you can, weβd love you to take photos and post them so we can all share in your festive cheer π€
So, itβs time for the FIRST WEEK OF THE CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE!
Are you ready? Here it is:
WEEK 1: 4TH-10TH DECEMBER:
1. Find a decorated tree (inside or outside) and take a photo π(3 points)
2. Find your first Santa π and take a photo (3 points)
3. Run/walk to post your Christmas cards and run/walk back home again (5 points)
If you want to join our festive Challenge then let us know in the comments here and weβll add your name to the spreadsheet. That way you can see who else is joining you! Come on, I mean what else are you going to be doing in December? ππ₯³
Let's see what I can do here on Mauritius. Number 3 is out for me (did that on Tuesday!), but I'm curious to know if there will be Santa's or trees - disappointingly there were none in the airport π΄π
Excellent IP! π€Ά Ok, Iβm in. The cards might be a challenge thoughβ¦ can I just do a few of them? Anything that can help me get out when itβs cold and raining (like most of the timeβ¦)
I'm in for festive pom pom waving & cheering you all on. I'm out for the challenge. When you're married to a Pastor, have 5 boys to entertain on Summer holidays & 5 additional services over Christmas outside of our normal Sunday services just getting out for a run will be enough of a challenge π€£
A massive thank you to all our administrators on this forum who work so hard to keep encouraging us in our running week in week out. Thankful for you! Elf team Irishprincess Beachcomber66 linda9389
Challenge 2: Will this ornament work for the first sighting of Santa Claus? In the story, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", the orphaned infant (with the name of 'Claus' - see tag on ornament) is found by a family of elves named Kringle. The Kringles are the 'First Toy Makers to the King' and name the baby Kris...you can see where this is going...
There's also Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Year without a Santa Claus (Heat Miser/Snow Miser are riots!), and, finally, The Little Drummer Boy (my favourite). So have a look for them, too.
All three challenges done. Lincoln Cathedral and christmas tree looked magnificent in the mist last night after walking up Steep Hill, one hill I don't think I will ever manage to run up.Today christmas cards posted, I forget the photo, on my warm up walk before a lovely 6km run. I couldn't resist taking a picture of our neighbours Homer with his Christmas hat.
It was 7.00am when I met TailChaser this morning for an our gentle sunrise gossip run around the park. it was suppose to be Santa hats this morning but mine was still in the box in the top of the wardrobe and I didnβt fancy disturbing a snoring Mr Shakes by retrieving it. So here we are pulling impy faces with the lovely tree inside the foyer of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Can I mention that I am wearing a Santa hat, itβs just tossed backwards, and I have my Christmas shoes on. Shakes lulled me into a false sense of security and owes me a mulled wine π
cheeky little walk with Mr Shakes to the postbox to post the cards this afternoon, so please can I add the points to my tally? Thanks for the challenge donβt think they would have got done so promptly without it!!
Oh go on then Irishprincess ! But I don't send cards so I'll pledge to run to the Post Office and back, without posting anything! π I've only just noticed the challenge, so it seems I have some catching up to do. And Darragh is limiting things this weekend too......
Great! Iβll add you to the Challenge. Thatβs very noble running to the PO without posting cards π
It is a bit of a challenge for me now. Iβve done none of them and was supposed to run yesterday but that didn't happen for all sorts of reasons and now today is out of the question (Iβm in the South West π± π¨) Iβll have to find a tree and Santa on my way to the PO π
Well I may as well have a goβ¦although apologies if the busyness of the next few weeks takes over and I fall behind! I should also be able to tick off a few from the challenge over on Bridge, too.ππ
Number 1 complete - our village tree. (Well we call ourselves a village but I think we are really a small town!) I took this on a run earlier in the week.π
Well Irishprincess I managed to get to the PO and back, once the wind had dropped to the mid-sixties mph, so I'll have 5 points please π. Quite a lot of pavement debris, and I was almost flying on the way back, but it was an enjoyable 2.5k
I haven't been around much on HU recently, but the Christmas challenges here and on the Bridge have tempted me back for a little festive fun. So here's my week, with pics. First the huge tree in Barcelona on Wednesday, part of an illuminated trail. Then me helping the Elf & Safety Team clearing the chimneys for Santa, who is checking up on me in the background. And today, posting my cards back home again. Phew, but methinks, it will probably get more challenging...
Ok; I have managed to find a low key Singing Santa and bijou tree to picture! There is no way we will have Christmas cards ready for distribution tomorrow; bit off the pace. Both of these pics come from my post run cafe. I think that is 6 points, unless either is disqualified as being minimalist!π
the 3rd challenge for me was most difficult. I was running on the track tonight but went in search of Santa on my walk there and back. It seems the inflatable ones have become victims of the storm and the houses around me just have lights. So I headed into Morrisons and found a couple so I hope these will count ( no I didnβt buy either!!).
Hi IP! I completed No.1 a few days ago, so today (having secured many stamps from the post office on the way home) I posted the cards I wrote last night AND hunted for Santa on my run! This was especially tricky, as he was nowhere to be seen, despite my ambling through what I thought were the most highly decorated areas of the village! However, towards the end of my run, there he was π - being projected on to the side of a house, so all challenges complete!
I think I went way βbeyondβ by taking photographic evidence of all these things -how strange I must have looked taking a photo of a letter box!π€£π€£
Well this is probably cheating but I posted my cards in a tree topped post box, but only walked from my car and back , but you can have the (not very good) photo anyway!!! The topper is very cute but had to use the flash as v dark! I don't think I'll get to run club tonight as still v sniffy πͺxxx
Another one of those weeks. Running but not reading. All the best to every on on the challenges, I will endeavour to join when I can. Too much going on. Also we keep having difficulties getting photos to my upset computer.
