Hello Running Buddies, I haven’t posted since the New Forest 10K so I thought I’d better give you an update.
it’s only 2 weeks 3 days until the 10 mile Great South Run, and since the NFM 10k I have only run one long 11k training run . I tried a 12k run last Friday, but it got delayed and when I left the house with UTS in the afternoon I knew I wouldn’t be able to run 12k. At just over 6k I sent UTS on his way and ended up doing 8k just so I could get home! My heart just wasn’t in it. Lots of things going on since then meant today was the day to get out and run.
it was cloudy when I left home but took sunglasses as sun was forecast. I set up NRC 99:59 guided run , and with that and a shuffled playlist I was entertained and motivated. I ran into the wind towards the Hayling Island Ferry, and then turned to come back along the promenade . Continuing under the trees, along Ladies Mile, around the Skate Park and back into the wind along the prom again
I have been doing daily physio exercises to fix a piriformis problem on my left side and was really pleased that that and a recent (painful) sports massage seem to have done the trick. But at around 10k I had a slight twinge in my right knee. I obviously need to exercise my right side now to make it as strong as the left. i managed to walk it out and got running again.
The sun had come out early in the run, lots of runners were about and you know the majority of them will be running the GSR as they say hello or raise a hand. At around 11k my feet started burning and I remembered I was wearing the same socks I wore at the GSR last year, when the same thing happened after about 12k. Note to self,: wear thinner socks next time. So a bit of run/walking followed and a loo stop so I felt I should go further than my 12k target and kept going to 13k. It’s certainly not fast but I ran just under 1:45 so at least I have got a few more miles under my belt.
It really was a beautiful day, and I can say my heart was definitely in this one. It was hard at the end but I do feel a little step closer now. Sorry, my photo is being rejected again!
Now for High 5 and my physio exercises before a shower.

A big congratulations to you Dexy5 on running 13 K in preparation for your Great South Run on Sunday 20th October, you ran it very well and I am sure UTS will be very proud of you✅🏃
So far this year I haven't ran any more than 10K , ten altogether, #11 this coming Sunday, however, I might run The Great South Run virtually that same day, I haven't ran 10 miles since October last year so the one time this year may be a good idea, certainly I wish all the best for Sunday 20th October.
Thank you AlMorr . I do find the step up from 10k to 16k quite hard, and I’ve usually done a lot more running by this stage. But I hope to get one more long one in next week and I’m confident I will get around even if I don’t run it all.
That will be nice to know you are running virtually with us on the 20th.
You will be ready for 10 miles just in time I reckon Dexy5. Early autumn has returned up here! Blue sky, warm breeze and no rain!! All of that wintry weather has gone . Little 6k today which went fine.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 for the big day.
On photographs, I have had problems with rejections since I bought an iPhone 15. I am always been told that I have exceeded limits.
I have found a workaround so that I can post smaller pics, but it is a nuisance.
I haven’t changed my phone so I wonder if HU has done something to the site. I have reported it to them as it did it a few weeks ago , and then was sorted out. I wonder if it’s just iPhones.
It was so nice to be out in the lovely weather with the waves crashing on the beach at high tide.
Yes these socks are fine for 10k, but after that , no way! A shame because I like the extra padding on my soles. Next run will be in the thin socks for sure.
That’s the plan at the moment Dexy but will see how my next 2 long runs go. Still coughing post-covid 🙄 but it’s definitely not on my chest and hasn’t bothered me on my runs. Gets worse after talking all day at school!🤣 Back at 10k last week so hoping to step it up in time…🤞
Oh it is a relief Jonathan ; I was getting quite worried about finding the time to get this run in . I am sorry that you won’t be able to do it with us this year . But 2025 will still be there waiting for you,
Yes so am I - very frustrating! Ironic that it was my 13k run a couple of weeks ago, aimed at increasing my distance towards 10 miles, that set my ankle off. Still as you say, there's always next year!
Well done Dexy, that is a great distance to tick off before the GSR. And great news that the Piriformis behaved. Such a relief 🙂
I had to have a couple of attempts to load a photo the other day but eventually it went through, so I think they’re still having issues by the sound of it.
Thank you IP. Brett has responded so hopefully it can be fixed. It doesn’t seem to accept my photos in the correct format, despite it being from my photo library as always.
Great run Dexy. Having got to 13k, you will easily complete GSR and in a good time too if you did 1.45 😃 Sorry I won’t be there this year either ☹️ Just for info I managed my photo last week (iPhone 12)
