Planning my year back in January, I saw myself completing the London Winter 10k followed by some consolidation at that distance with maybe a few trail 10k runs throughout the summer. I would then be building to a comfortable half Marathon distance by, let’s say November, taking in the GSR on the way. Of course that was all in preparation for April 2020, when I was going to run, (no, smash!) the VLM. Maybe I was naive? Maybe that naivety could be excused by the fact that I’m still a novice, only 18 months since I started running.
Never fear, this isn’t going to be a story of woe and catastrophe!
Winter 10k ✅
Weekly trail Parkrun ✅
Increasing distance running 3 x per week ✅
Woodland 10k ✅
Epic trail 10k ✅
Achilles problem ✅
Physio ✅
Reduce effort for a couple of weeks with exercises ✅
Couple of days in bed with the flu when I should be out finalising training ✅
GSR watch this space! Hopefully I’ll run it all, but I’ll certainly finish. Achilles permitting.
VLM - Rejection magazine dropped onto the mat this morning.☹️
Maybe the Half Marathon will have to wait till after Christmas, and it’s probably for the best that I didn’t get on to London. Doesn’t stop me being a bit disappointed.
🏃♀️☹️🏃♀️😊
But I do like the rejection top!

Sorry to hear about the rejection. But what a great list of achievements you have!
It's getting monumentally difficult to get into the London Marathon, though i hear charity places are easier to get. But you've done a heck of a lot. And it gives your achilles a chance to heal properly. I'm going to be doing Oxford half on Sunday with a niggling knee that swells when i run, then goes down in between. so I'm not all that confident about making it round.
Really difficult to get on. My first rejection, my OH has had 10! No one I know got on this year. The club has a couple of places to ballot, but I’ll leave that to the sub 3:30 brigade. There’s always next year 🤞
I’m no good at asking for money, so I don’t want to commit to raising thousands and then letting a charity down.
This running can be a bit of a rollercoaster can't it? You've achieved lots but you also have loads more to look forward to. Sometimes best not to rush but to savour along the way. Otherwise what on earth would you be looking at this time next year? Ultras here you come 🤣🤣🤣 good luck with GSR 🙂
What a brilliant 18 months you’ve had Katie. We started about the same time . I too am aiming for the great South run , and have found that extending to this distance has created a few niggles, but hopefully physios exercises will keep me going.
If we all do flat runner photos we may be able to spot each other among the 20000 runners.
This will be my longest distance. I’ll be returning to 10ks after that.
The running path is never straight, and it certainly brings out the philosopher in us 😊😊😊 Sorry to hear about the rejection mag and hope the Achilles behaves itself. Good luck for the GSR xxx
