Wow what a day that was! I’m utterly shattered but such a great day despite not making the final.
I came 3rd in my heat which I’m thrilled with but my time was 3/100ths of a second too slow to qualify for the final. I never expected to qualify but to come so close is both amazing and disappointing all at the same time.
The best news is that I’m the 9th fastest M60 100m sprinter in the world. Even better, all the others were younger than me which makes me the fastest 1961 birth year sprinter in the world. That feels really weird writing that. Unreal.
I’m delighted and so happy. Uncle Paolo I hope I did you proud.
Now there are two days rest before the 4x100m final on Saturday and the 200 heats on Sunday.
Thank you so much to all of you here for your well wishes, kind comments and messages of support. They truly helped me get through. Thank you 🙏❤️
PS I can’t post the video of the race here but if you wish to follow me on strava I will be putting it there shortly.

Excellent news RBR, well done, normally 3/000ths of a second is nothing but of course in athletics can mean the difference between a gold and silver medal, at the recent Olympics a 1000th of a second slower was the difference between a gold and silver medal.
Wow Brian! I looked you up this afternoon and saw just how phenomenally close you were, that's just amazing. I can't imagine how bittersweet it must feel to be that close, but hopefully the sweet bit is winning the day! You truly are a star! Especially after all the niggles you've pushed through recently.Rest well now, and we'll be back to cheer you on in the next one. Just awesome!!!
So happy to read this, to know you put everything in and got so close, you really did your uncle proud and the rest of us too 👏👏👏, wishing you all the best for the relay and 200 heats 😁
Wow, what an amazing run. So close yet so far, but you are the fastest in the WORLD for our birth year. Mind blowing 🤯 Good luck for the relay and 200m!
Oh yes Brian, your Uncle Paolo would be so proud 🥹. And we are all so pleased for you here on the forum - those are amazing statistics and confirmation of your super- speediness 🏃🏽and, I am sure, all the hard work and training you have put in to get where you are. Just brilliant - well done! 🙂
Well done! 👊✊ 💪🏃♂️ You did brilliantly well and there was nothing in it! Disappointingly tight margins but that’s the nature of the beast. It’s a fantastic achievement and you should be bursting with pride. I know I would be 😁
On to the next events then. I do hope you can get some rest and recuperation ready for the weekend’s fun. Eat well, sleep much and don’t worry 😀💪👍
Just how does one reply to a post like this? It is off the scale in terms of achievement. Fastest man in the world for for the 1961 birth year!!! Did I just say fastest man in the world for for the 1961 birth year? I did, because that is what you are! How many wows will do for such an achievement? Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!! And just three tincy wincy 100ths of a second from the finaI so 9th fastest M60 100m sprinter in the world. Wow again! Many many many congratulations. And here's to your next events going in the best possible way. I hope that you have been able to sleep after such excitement, perhaps all the adrenaline will carry you though. But here's to good rest before next races. RunBrianRunRunRunRun!
Fantastic RunBrianRun , we are very proud of you, and you are representing all of us oldies (who are somewhat slower). I saw something on Facebook about the Italian winner of 100m who is 90 years old - just incredible . Good luck for your next events.
Sorry I haven’t been able to reply to all the lovely messages. We have been busy with the relay squad today and again tomorrow afternoon before the race on Saturday.
