Road to Pescara

It would seem that all roads this year have led me to the European Championships in Italy in just 3 weeks time. I thought I’d share the last part of my journey with you here. I’m entered in the 100 and 200 metre races with 5 other British Athletes in my age group.

It feels great to go as current British 100m champion but strangely I am suffering with a touch of imposter syndrome today. I need to shake that off soon. I earned that medal the hard way and I deserve it.

I’ll be attending as the fastest GB 100 M60 runner but that still puts me a fair way way down the seeding list for the heats on the 21st. If you’re interested here’s a link to the list.

There is one rogue GB athlete who has entered a false time for his 100 which means he will get a more favourable heat. That’s a bit naughty and I would have expected the organisers to double check the times against the national databases.

If I run well and get my start sorted my realistic aim is to reach the semi final. My goal however is to reach that 100 final.

In the 200 I will be lucky to reach the semis but you just never know!

I’m resting up for the rest of this week as I’m heading to London on Saturday for the Veterans AC Championships where I have asked to run with 50s group to give me a more realistic European race experience. Tuesday I spent an hour and a half at the track with my coach and then headed straight to the gym for a 40 minute hard leg and core session. I did heavy sled pulls at the track and there should really help with my drive phase which is a notable weak spot in my running. I have plans for the winter break to improve it further!

If you want to hear more please let me know. I really enjoy sharing my experiences with you guys here.

Have fun and run strong unless you’re on the IC in which case, heal up soon!

Brian

Exciting times ahead Brian, you've put in the work and it shows in your results. I feel proud to have followed your progress and always interested in hearing your race and training experiences

Oh yes, please keep posting your experiences Brian. It’s a whole other world for me, and I’m sure for the vast majority of us here on HU. My expertise stops as soon as the athletics on the TV is switched off!

We all know how hard you worked to win that medal, and you deserve to do well in Italy. How very very exciting. 🎉 I can’t believe someone entered a fake time to give him a favourable seeding though. That’s cheating surely, and should have been picked up? 😠

Running in the 50s category in London sounds like a great idea just for practice - go on, surprise them Mr Speedy!

Good luck! ☘️ And don’t forget to tell us everything! You’re inspiring! 💥

Oof, that looks like hard work!

If the last race didn't do it, then I wonder just what it takes to slay imposter syndrome - you'll just have to find a way to make that syndrome work for you 😍

All the best on Saturday and we are waiting with baited breath to hear how Italy goes 😊

You are certainly no imposter Brian, just a late starter. You have worked so hard to become the fastest M60 and we are all so happy for you. So put that GB strip on and run for us all in Italy.

Enjoy the rest first though. 😉

You're definitely a ProAm runner RunBrianRun so your stories go towards the 'Race Support ' moniker.

You and your coaches seem to have found that balance of hard training and avoiding injury. Fingers crossed that balance is maintained up to the final! 💪💪

I love reading your posts RunBrianRun , even though our running is very different, as I really appreciate the rigour and discipline in your races.

As for someone knowingly and deliberately entering a false time in order to gain advantage, in my book that's cheating and I'd throw the person in question out. Don't worry, I'm not exepcting you to coment on that!

Hope your races go really well!
