I did it, 1st Half Marthon distance since April 21, chuffed that my body stayed healthy and injury free for the 5 months of training...I definitely do not take that for granted πββοΈππ
As usual, these forums are to be thanked. π It was the HU Spring 10K that got me training from 5K in March. After running that in May I decided to keep adding an extra 1K per weekend run and see how it went.
The last couple of weeks have been a bit challenging as I've felt run down, but today I felt good. I set my alarm for 6am to head out early in case it ending up warmer than expected. I've been caught out a couple of times by that and really struggle to run longer distances in the heat and sun π₯΅
I headed out for 19K today, but already had in the back of my head I might try for 21.1...my unusually positive gremlins were saying 'it's cool weather with a lovely bit of drizzle, what if it's hot the next couple of weeks, what if you get poorly, or injured' π΅βπ«
I didn't dwell on it but the thought was there, so when at 15K I felt quite strong it had me thinking that last week at 6K before the end I'd been drained and struggling...so if I managed 6K last week then I could absolutely do it this week.
Decision made, I adjusted my route in my head and carried on running. Yes it was hard work, yes it was 11 minutes slower than the last one but after 4 HMs, it's also the 1st one when I've finished and thought 'maybe I can consider running a bit further'...eek, I'm not saying a Metric Marathon I'm just saying, maybe a bit further, maybe! π π€£

Congratulations to you Run46 on running your first half marathon since 2021, you should be very proud of yourself, who knows you might be able to go further in the future.
Congratulations Run46 and thank you for sharing! I am currently training for a HM (not run one for a long while either) and posts like this are always so inspiring! πππ
Thanks Sandra, it's certainly a challenge...good luck, hope the weather doesn't get too warm for you. I'm rubbish when it's too hot, hence getting up at 6am on Saturday π
Brilliant Run; a huge success to be celebrated wildly πΎ. A little tip; even if your are thinking of doing a MM, best not mentionβ¦..I mentioned it recently, but I think that I got away with it ππ
Fabulous!!! What a great feeling that is, knowing you pushed yourself, yet feeling you could do more. Congratulations on a job very, very well done. Chester Metric Marathon is fab ... just sayin' ... π
Thanks Linda, I did have a peek but it's all sold out...tut, such a shame π
I may keep an eye on it as I follow their Facebook page but honestly I see the price, and with not driving, consider the logistics and think that it sounds like a hassle when I could just run it from home π€π
