Feels a bit odd coming over here but after reading someone else's post I thought I'd pop over to see what it's all about and ask if I can have a 10 mile badge? I know it's Wednesday and I ran Sunday but I hadn't really thought about until this evening.
I've been toying with the idea of the Great South run for a while and whilst I've been running 10k plus for the last year hadn't been able to get past 14k. Set out Sunday for a gentle 8k run but found my planned route blocked so decided to head off in vaguely the right direction to get me home.......18k and one flat on my face moment (tripped over a tree stump in a bit of the woodland I haven't run in before but didn't break my new phone) I was tired but really rather proud that I had finally broken through that barrier. Maybe I will think about training for a half after all. π

Welcome. Iβve been lurking about behind the scenes over here and only now feel like I belong now Iβve hit the 18k mark. Still not sure if Iβll enter any races , not even ran a 5k or 10k race yet but Iβd like to know I can run an HM at least.
Solo running is fine but itβs good to race Itβs FUN. Who knew π€·ββοΈπ
Until I raced Iβd no idea there were so many female older runners out there, running up a storm πββοΈπͺπͺπ₯π₯βοΈ It gave me confidence to stick at it
Thank you. I think some of the pace came from blind panic when I realised my route was disrupted and realised what that actually meant in terms if where I needed to run. π
When I was consolidating my 5k I didn't understand the long runners but as I have increased my distance I've got to live the space it gives me and really value my Sunday long one. I'm even starting to understand why ultra runners do it.
I understand the distances but the events/increased people on the paths I don't really get at all. Getting away from it all is the big thing for me. ππ»π
Well done. Book that Great South Run whilst you are in the moment. You wont regret it. I mostly run alone too. However, I do like to do and event every couple of months as it gives me an end goal to focus my training on.
Once you get to ten miles you're pretty much at half marathon distance, so no point stopping now! π And lots of us here have done/will do the Great South Run, so you'd be in good company if you decide to sign up! (do it, do it, do it π)
Hi EB, and welcome! I think we all feel the same stepping over here. Iβve run up to 18k and Iβm headed for HM distance, but I still post mainly over on B210K. Odd really, but I still feel very small in Big School! π
Youβre most definitely deserving of your 10 mile badge. Thatβs one thing I didnβt hang about asking for! Amazing time too. Youβre worthy, definitely!
Oh, and Iβm running the GSR, as are several others on here. Do it!!!
I've read some of the race reports from a number of you on B210K who can't live far from me and they've really helped spur me on so thank you. I love the big school analogy you are so right.
For what it's worth, I joined the group straight after C25K (in order to take part in the speed challenge). The name of the group does seem a bit daunting but nobody complained about me starting with 5k. Besides, you have a 10 mile badge so there's no argument!
