After 12 weeks training, a few niggles, a bout of ill health and a problem with my shoes I have to say I'm just chuffed to have finally made it...I nievely thought the second one would be easier! π
One way or another the last couple of weeks have felt like a slog so I had my doubts when setting out this morning but it went ok....what am I saying, I finished it so it went great! π
Unfortunately after a bout of light headedness after my 12 mile run 2 weeks ago my confidence took a bit of a knock which meant the lovely countryside route I had planned got nipped in the bud as I wanted to stay closer to home just in case, so round and round the town it was.
It went really well and at a decent pace for the 1st 16K, then tiredness set in and I slowed up a bit. At 18K I stretched out my hamstring and felt just very slightly dizzy for a couple of seconds so unlike my usually constant run I allowed myself a bit of Jeffing for the next couple of K, then pushed to bring it home at 2hrs 27 minutes, a PB by just over a minute.
After a cool down walk and stretches, drink and snack, sleep and then shower π³ (Yes I know that's gross but I felt exhausted so lay on the bed for a minute before getting undressed, and fell fast asleep for half an hour), followed by scrambled eggs on toast I feel good...drained but good.
Oh and also this was a virtual HM so I will be getting a medal, yay! π

Congratulations on running your second half marathon in 2 hours 27 minutes, I am sure you are very happy in running it in under 2. 1/2 hours. π ππΎ You deserve that π₯ medal. π Yay
Thanks Alan...I remember you treated yourself to a box of chocs when you did your 1st 10K, and as I've got to wait for the medal I bought myself a small box and a mini prosecco to celebrate with tonight, if I can stay awake that is π
I got myself a box of chocolates when I graduated from C25K and when I ran my first 10K, when I ran that 10 miles last month I celebrated that afternoon by seeing my grandchildren for the first time in 4 months because of lockdown, that was a good day for me, enjoy your prosecco tonight
Well just brilliant. You've kept going despite the setbacks of the previous weeks and achieved the HM distance in a super time, and a PB and a medal. Phew!! I think you deserve a magnum of champagne! Congratulations πππ₯π₯πππ₯³π₯³π₯³
Fabulous! Huge congratulations. A PB as well - no wonder it wasn't easier!!!
Imagine how fast it would've been today if you'd added in 'race magic' - it's tough trying to push yourself when , to all intents and purposes, it's just like any other training run. I love that you fell asleep - a job well done!!! Rest well, all snuggly in the smug afterglow of a half marathon PB πππ
Thanks Linda, I kidded myself I'd just be happy to finish but then when with 1K to go I realised if I gave it some special effort it'd be a PB then I was determined to make it happen. I think it was that extra push that zonked me out ππ΄
Thanks, lol it was, felt much more lively afterwards π
Absolutely fantastic! Well done you and congratulations on another incredible distance! π½
You are right when you say it's not necessarily easier but it's a fantastic achievement. Those last few miles from 11 onwards always seem to sting π₯΅ the feeling after is so amazing though and I totally get it when you said you were zonked out after π This is a really good pace and time overall so I know you'll be delighted to get a PB.
When it's tough I always tell myself that when I recover I'll wish I put it all in and you did that today. You must feel elated. I'm so pleased for you!! ππ₯
Thanks, I am just a bit pleased with myself...mostly as I didn't feel I ran the 1st one well, I felt unwell in the last couple of miles and afterwards and kicked myself for not having better preparation and nutrition etc.
This time I did everything right to give myself the best chance and yes, it was still flippin hard but I feel well, and that's a good feeling π
I know what you mean but you can be super prepared too and with a race of that distance so many things can happen. You have now achieved it twice so change being a 'bit' pleased to 'very' pleased π
Congratulations on running your second HM Run46 and a pb. It is exhausting after that run but in a good way . Hope you've recovered well. Happy running ππͺπ₯³
