Wow! We have an absolutely amazing selection of awesome VRBs taking to a huge variety of sunny start lines this week. They will need your pompoms and your loudest and most enthusiastic cheers on both Sunday and Monday, so no slacking please! π
On Sunday 23rd June:
βοΈ Firstly, we have a lovely trio of south coast VRBs - Dexy5 , UpTheStanley and Mudita11 who will all be running the Exbury Gardens 10k again; taking in the stunning gardens and views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight this is billed as one of the Southβs most picturesque 10kβs - itβs easy to see why youβd want to do it again!
βοΈ Coming up next is Shake-and-run who will be tackling the superbly named Snodsbury Scoot and Scramble 10. This is a 10km (ish), mainly off-road race including stretches of footpaths, bridle paths, meadows and tracks, with multiple gates and styles to navigate! Watch out Shakes (especially for the βishβ)!!!
βοΈ Then we have Fiadh79 and RunSkippyRun who will both be running the Leeds 10K. This is one of the Jane Tomlinson 'Run For All' events, set up by Jane herself when she was fundraising and battling terminal cancer in 2006. It has grown into a hugely popular event, boasting lots of crowd support along the entire route.
βοΈ Finally on Sunday, Cowladyrunning will be taking on the Westonbirt 10K. Set in the arboretum, this is an incredibly beautiful, varied, and largely flat race! The solid stone forest paths give a surface more akin to a solid road surface, but with all the beauty of a trail run. relishrunningraces.com/west...
It looks set to be warm, so be sure to hydrate well and dress appropriately (donβt forget the sunscreen!).
Is there anyone else with an event over the coming week that we havenβt mentioned? If so, give us the details in the comments here and we will add you to the cheer list. For any events in the remainder of June or in July, see the links below to get your details included.
What a delightful crop of runners we have this weekend. Make sure you all have a blast, hydrate plenty and grasp that precious bling with your undoubtedly sweaty little mitts when youβre done. And then tell us all about it!
Enjoy! β€οΈβ€οΈ Warm and happy West Country pompoms are at the ready β¦β¦ π
What a beautiful sunny pom-pom @linda9389, and so appropriate for this weekend. Last year it was sunny and over 25Β°C when we did this race , a tad warm for running , but it looks like a cloudy 17Β°C this Sunday. π€ looking forward to catching up with Mudita11 again too.
Good luck to Shake-and-run , that run sounds good to avoid for any hay fever sufferers.
Have fun RunSkippyRun , Fiadh79 , a brilliant charity fundraiser. And to Cowladyrunning doing what sounds beautiful running in the shade of trees at this time of year.
over61andstilltrying , itβs so good to see you back running again after your injuries.
Thanks Dexy, Iβm getting worried now, Iβm not a hay fever suffer but the photos do show runners in some very long grass!! Still it will be fun Iβm sure!!
What a turn out! Enjoy a fantastic day the Exbury 3 ( Β Dexy5 , Β UpTheStanley and Β Mudita11 ).
Snodsbury Scoot! Tread carefully Β Shake-and-run . Hope your run goes well Β Fiadh79 and Β RunSkippyRun ; supporting an important cause.
Westonbirt sounds like a really beautiful place to run Β Cowladyrunning
and last but definitely not least Β over61andstilltrying β¦β¦maybe take your foot off the gas on the downhill bits this time! Arms spread wide and aeroplane noises have their placeβ¦but you can overdo a good thing π.
Thank you Beachcomber π There are some downhill parts, but nowhere near as long or steep as on my last event. I'll endeavour to be sensible πππ»ββοΈ
Enjoy your holiday including your holiday runs πππ»ββοΈ
What a great selection of run events - my pom-poms are poised and ready to shake for you all! Good luck - run safe and enjoy your days!ππππ½πββοΈ
π€£ππ€£ I wonder roughly what proportion of a race for you you would count as fun? In the 2019 Duffield 5 at 23β as a 62 year running downhill along the Hazelwood Road shouting to the lads with super soakers to, 'Get my face! Get my face!' Was great fun! It still brings a big smile to my face. It seems sometimes running gives me permission to be a 7 year old! That year I still seemed to have plenty of energy left. Last year, I had limited reserves left at that stage. This year the route has been changed so that part won't be included.
Sounds fabulous but a shame theyβve moved it. Maybe thereβll be more super soakers in the new bit? It should all be fun really, I think we all like the fact that running helps us act like kids again - I was wearing a tutu at parkrun this morning, and I blame Dexy5 for that, it was her idea π Just take it steady and take it all in, donβt go out too fast, keep hydrated and then you should have reserves to enjoy it all.
Iβve got a local hill race coming up and the villagers turn out in numbers to cheer on the runners. The support all the way round does help when itβs hot, tough going and the end seems a long way off
thanks Linda for the shout out and everyone for waving your pom poms. Good luck to everyone else running this weekend.
my calendar is a bit hectic so I shall be warming up for my run tomorrow by walking 8.5mikes of the Cotswold Way today!! Legs will be a bit tired on Monday!
