Before I get to the actual race bit - I have to share that my anxiety πΏ nearly got the better of me this morning. Having looked forward to this race, which incidentally I have run twice before, I woke with my head full of gremlins telling me I couldnβt do itβ¦I was too slowβ¦it was a hard courseβ¦I would struggle to get roundβ¦blah blah blah! I told my husband I wasnβt going to go..etc etc.π
I wanted to share this because it may help others who also struggle with worries, who also face these voicesβ¦for me, invariably worse in the morning. I have lived my life it seems, with them hijacking my plans and dreamsβ¦if you know, you know β€οΈ.
Anyway, despite this pretty rubbish start to the day, I pulled myself out of bed - and did exactly the opposite!πͺπ I got ready and after my usual breakfast of porridge, we headed over to Wisborough Green for this really lovely (but hard!) community event. There is a 5 and 10k which start together, followed a little later by a Colour Run on the Green for the kids.
My husband wasnβt running today as he recently turned an ankle but one of my sons was - his work place was also one of the sponsors.π
Turnout was good and the sun was shining - the start was a little delayed due to the number of people deciding to register on the day.
Soon we were off on the two lap course and yes, it was as energy sapping as I remember due to the constantly undulating roads! Lap 2 definitely felt harder than lap 1 and it was great to return to the village green for the final flourish to the finish!
Timing wise -1:09:26 for me and 54:16 for my son, but perhaps the biggest takeaway for me was I beat the demonsπΏβ¦again!ππββοΈ
