It looks as though our cheer leaders can rest their weary arms again. We have no races reported for this weekend; so far at least. Doubtless many of us will be busy with family and friends over Easter and the team wishes everyone a happy and peaceful holiday.
So, I need to improvise. Well I can start with reinforcing the big news of the week fromlinda9389 ;the HU 10k and 10 mile runs on 19 May, or at any point in the period 20 to 26 May for anyone who cannot make the 19th. You can register your entry by replying here and we will add your name to the list
At the last count we had 13 runners for 10 miles and 23 for 10k with over61andstilltrying planning to open the proceedings with her HM on 18 May. I am sure that lots more will join in!
My training schedule has altered already. I rejoined the NRC HM plan yesterday after a bit of rehab.I might just make it for 10 miles on the day; hopefully without Covid-19 again creating a bit of drama for me a few weeks ahead of race day! If the mud dries up, I may even give an outing for my brand new shoes (pictured) for the occasion.
Ok, enough rambling. Have a fabulous holiday period everyone.
I will need a 5 day good weather window before they go anywhere! Safely back in the box.
No chocolate for me 😕; pesky pre diabetic thing! Only one point above the limit, but that is enough. That said, losing weight has upped my VO2 max; Ill wind and all that 🍫🍫🍫😋
You can get chocolate and sweet goodies for diabetics BC. But I’ll join you on the no chocolate as I’m not a lover and would far rather have a huge bag of crisps 😋
We did think about doing the Kew Gardens 10k this weekend but decided not to try that drive on a bank holiday weekend! The A3(M) / M25 route is so awful at the mo. But we are doing a tourist parkrun tomorrow instead.
Nice shoes! I’ve just ordered another pair of Brooks adrenaline GTS 22. I have really liked running in them , and while they are still available at £80 instead of £135, I will keep buying them. Further 10% discount available now! Please delete photo if not allowed.
Happy Easter Dexy5. I needed a half size bigger than the 22’s they had left in stock, so I just bit the bullet and ordered the 23s. My running shop is so good, I didn’t want to cut them out…old softy I know! I think that there are a few minor modifications on the new ones…will make me run much faster obviously! 😉
Yes I would always go to our local running shop to buy a new version, and I buy my socks and other bits and bobs from them. UTS bought the 23s for the first time last year and is really pleased with them.
And you Linda 🙂 . My tech knowledge has improved a lot in the last few weeks, thanks to my patient teachers. You and Irishprincess are so easy to work with. 💐💐 (one each 🙂).
You too BC 💐I've spent the last three days helping my gather change his email address. Given he has an iphone and ipad ... I've had a great deal of learning to do. I have a headache!
nice shoes BC! My new shoes arrived just after we left home (they are safe with a neighbour), so I too can have that new shoe feeling when I get home at the weekend !
Why thank you BC and fellow shoe buyers. You all reminded me I’ve been prodded by Strava for a good while now saying I need to replace my Ghost 14s. I always ignore the shouts when they start, as I simply don’t seem to wear shoes out (and new ones feel no different anyway). I always go wayyyy beyond the recommended mileage. 🤷♀️
Anyway, to avoid FOMO I popped online and found a pair in my size for £65.00. A huge saving, and was delighted to add the Easter discount code of an extra 10% off. 😀 I won’t get them until we return from hols, but that’s ok.
NRC HM Plan starts on Sunday in 🇫🇷. I do love a plan.
Happy Easter everyone. Pom-poms are resting, ready to spring into action whenever required. 🥰
I am always a bit anxious about the early runs in new shoes; no reason why there should be a problem…but it is just a change. They will be fine I am sure.
I can assure you Beachcomber that I didn't say anything about planning to open the proceedings! I had replied to Linda that with my possible first ever HM on the 18th, that I wouldn't be able to take part in the HU event. Linda had the idea of including me. We shall have to see if I reach the start line. For the last two years I think, increase in distance has equalled swollen knee. I am trying to take it more gently this time so time will tell.
Sorry >61; I meant planning to do the run🙄. Poor sentence construction! Mea Culpa! We are willing you to complete this HM though, and it would be a great start to the weekend 🙂
Thank you 😊 I have also had a new pair of running shoes recently. My third pair and my first pair of Brooks. This time I was told by the pleasant helpful young assistant that I didn't need the arch support the previous two assistants had recommended. They seem fine so far. My last ones had split. I confess that I don't keep track of distance. I do hope yours suit you well. 😊
I have been wearing Adrenalines for a long time now. I have high arches (I don’t leave much of a footprint on the shower room floor!) and a tendency to overpronate. Low heel drops result in Achilles trouble for me. Adrenalines have a 12 mm heel drop and they are stability shoes. The latter is important as I do most of my running on trails. They are not designed to be trail shoes, but the combination of heel drop and stability works well for me on my chosen territory. I did develop an Achilles niggle last summer following hiking boot walks on flood plains in Alaska. My physio told me that running wasn’t the cause; it was all the walking I was doing! I now have heel cups in all shoes I wear, save for my Brooks. That seems to be working too.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Good idea on Pom Poms; wave them for us 🙂. I need to have a clear out of old shoes. They are too worn down for running long before they are useless for anything else …..so the pile grows!
Very swish. They have PB written all over them 🙂. I have been with Brooks for years now. I found that they accommodated my various issues really well, so stuck with them. I wonder if my need for a higher heel drop is an age thing. I won’t ask my physio; she doesn’t give age any room in the debate whatsoever. I remember being on my back on the couch and her getting me to stretch out my leg and relax it…next thing I knew my foot was whistling by my ear! She gives me all sorts of exercises to do where I think “never” but she has always been right…..I digress, as usual!
Happy Easter weekend. I'm volunteering at our 10th Anniversary of Parkrun this morning. I'm sure it will involve cake, if not chocolate. I do hope your new shoes get an outing very soon !
I'm contemplating entering on the day for this on Bank Holiday Monday 🤔 as we have an unexpectedly child free day ,Kenny might try it too, will be his 1st time (my 4th!) rydeharriers.co.uk/west-wig...
It'll be a slow slog if I do it but some clubmates are! It has a crazy steep hill right in the middle! 🤬🤔🏃♀️🏃♂️
Please put me down for the 10k for the virtual race Beachcomber66 xxx that'll be the week after doing Walk the Wight !
and…..you are on the 10k list aliboo 👍. Great to have you aboard.
That is a really positive idea re my old shoes. Much easier to send them somewhere where they can be used, rather than to consign them to the dustbin. Re-homing faithful friends 🙂. Monday morning is to be my first 10k since I ended the last one limping a few weeks ago. I will shake a few Pom Poms for both of us 🙂🤞
Love the shoes 😍! Just managed to find a pair of Brooks in a wide fit and loving them. They came just in time to help me nurse my injured little toe. Gave it a good smack on the corner of the bed day before my 10k and made it stick out at a jaunty angle. So thinking ‘I’m doing this whatever.’ I taped it to the next toe and carried on. Gradually getting better although today’s long run was slowest ever. Anyway the shoes have been great.
So I’m looking forward to May’s virtual 10K (in my case). I’ve got to get back to some hill work next week in training. I’ve made a pretty good training route which I’ve been using. I’ve been really naughty about leaving out the stretch and strength work. It’s starting to show. Please feel free to tell me off about this
I hope you’re all enjoying a great Easter weekend and Happy Running 😀🐣🐰
We don’t do telling off here CNS, unless it addressed to ourselves of course. We all drop off the boring stuff sometimes. I am bringing in hills again too.
I am being super good following a visit to my physio. She has loosened everything off nicely, albeit with some excruciating pain in the process, and has given me exercises to keep it that way. I am sure that I will lapse again; but not for a while…..😖. Long run Monday in my sights!
so sympathetic to the physio visit! I’m not sure my head is supposed to go to the extremes it gets pulled to but wow my neck feels better afterwards. Actually, avoiding nearly being necked like a chicken should be a good inspiration to keep exercising 😂
I think everyone is chilling this weekend, carb loading ready for the next few weeks. I know I am 😆 I do have an 8 mile training run tomorrow, which would equate to about 3 bags of mini eggs according to Irishprincess ’s calculations. I think I could cope with that!
Hmm… I’ll have to look up Linda’s post. I could do with an excuse for a 10 miler in May 🤔
